Getting a 10 22 licenced is probably not impossible although you might face a few questions on the need for a semi-auto rifle. A folding stock is a forget about it from the start. Don't forget that you also need the super's agreement for an aftermarket modification ( a substantial one that is, don't bother the man/lady if you want to stick a new scope or different mounts on your rifle ) and your not going to take that hurdle for fitting a folding stock.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking for a semi auto for a bit of cheap and cheerfull fun shooting bunnies. Should have no problems licensing it; understanding FO.

Any ideas on how much I should be looking to pay, have no idea and don't want to get ripped off.
Also lookingfor suggestions on a fairly decent scope??

Unless the bunnies are sitting at less than 25 yards away from you, I wouldn't bother with a 10/22.

Not sure on other semis, but I know the Ruger and it groups like a flock of chickens.

Shoot.ie is selling them new for between €350 and €410 depending on the model. That should give you a ballpark to work from.

I've heard mixed reports about 10/22s. Depending on your definition of accuracy they run from "grand" to "rubbish". Still, they're good fun. If you don't have your heart set on a semi-auto you'd get a CZ452 for similar money. Great little rifle and will do the job on the bunnies.

If you get the chance, try before you buy with as many rifles as possible in that price bracket.

Still taking bunnies / greys / whatever else out to 65 - 70 with mine...

anschutz and krico make fine .22 lr rifles. They're only available secondhand, but my brother has a krico and she'll group 1" at 70yds.

    Hi there ,
I picked one up in duffys a few weeks back .. and it’s great , straight from the box , it groups well at 50m and seems comparable with the other .22 semi autos I have used .. maybe I got a good one.

The 10/22 is a lovely piece to shoot ( I was using a .223 semi before this ) and have to say that I’m delighted with it but I believe that some people here have had some bad experience (seems to be a hell of a lot more on this site with issues with the 10/22 then on most other forums/sites , perhaps Ireland was not in receipt of the finest examples for some reason)

Anyways you can practically change every aspect of the rifle (with permission of course) , it’s a great little FA if you want to tinker with it , with as much aftermarket parts as I have seen for any product out there .

send me a PM if you want any more info ..

    Thanks
    Darr

    Thanks for the advice guys,

Came across a second hand 10 22, symthetic stock, threaded, with silencer and scope rail and a 25 round hotlips clip thrown in for 400, seems to be in good condition.
Does this seem like a good price??

Great deal IMO, paid 350 for mine as it was, new.

Might be a problem with the magazine though, think it's restricted...?

Thanks for the feedback, will bear that in mind and check it out with the local FO before anything.
    Also been looking on shoot.ie.
Anyone any experience with the walther G22 or remington 597?? Would these be better than the Ruger??

Rovi has a G22, I think. Same kind of story - for plinking tin cans, it's great fun; for actually trying to hit the center of the target, it's a piece of %$*£*$%&£! with a really *&£$%%£$ing trigger. Or words to that effect :D
But you'd expect that - it's a bullpup configuration, so there's a dirty great rod from the trigger shoe back to the trigger mechanism, and you can tell from the stock setup it's designed for fun plinking, not hard-core competition shooting.

Best of luck with the rifle, I cannot offer any advice on the gun itself but I tend to go for the Hawke night eye sights, I chose the mildot crosair, it cost 200 euro and will do me for when I buy a bigger gun for deer hunting. A good new one would cost about 150 euro but you may find them cheaper if you shop around. The crosair is quite nice and can be lit up in dim light.

You can find some here but I am not sure how accurate these prices are.

I remember hearing a long time ago that you cannot own a .22 semi auto if you already own a bolt action of the same calibre? Is this correct?

Main problem with the 597 is its magazines - god awful weak design, constant misfires / jams. Rifle itself isn't bad but you can't beat ruger's rotary mags, never failed on me yet (well, once or twice due to lousy ammo).

Which reminds me - buy decent ammo! The price may be a little higher (dear lord, 6 euro for 50 ) but the upside is a lot less time clearing the action of jammed rounds. Recommended: CCI minimags or velocitors; velocitors for more punch, minimags for a flatter trajectory, but both the best there is IMO.
