'Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2' on the Mega Drive. Also 'Streets of Rage'. Before my oh and me were married, we'd be up half the night playing these.:o Also 'Road Rash'-great fun belting each other with chains.:D His mother would be hours playing that one when the coloured jewels would fall down and when you'd get three or more in a row together they'd disappear, she'd be starry eyed.:)Some versions of it are called 'Tetrus' I think.

I was brought up on Sonic (first on the Master System) and then on the Megadrive, which we had to rent from the video shop as we couldn't afford one at first. :/

I used to own a Commodore Vic 20. I remember playing a game where you bombed a city with a helicopter. It was simple 2D stuff where the helpcopter passed left to right across the screen and you had to drop bombs on skyscrapers until the city was gone.

The game was loaded from tape (yes ordinary audio tape). You had to load the tape into a tape player, set the Vic 20 to load, press play, go away and have your supper, come back later and the game would be ready to play (hopefully, and only if the RF modulator to your TV set was still working - they used to blow)

I cannot for the life of me remember what that game was called

    God be with the days

Harrier attack, maybe? My friend had it so we used to go over to her house to play it, it was class!

I remember captain skyhawk. I had a master system and my friend had a nes, we used to always bring our consoles to each other's houses to play a mixture of nes and master system games. For the master system, Alex the Kidd in miracle world was one of my favourites... Along with Sonic, Enduro Racer, Afterburner, Wonderboy and a few others.

For the NES, Marable Madness, Mario 1-3, Battle of Olympus, Duck Hunt, Captain Skyhawk, Crash TV, Simpsons (although in retrospect, it now sucks).

On the commodore 64 - All the Dizzy games, CJ's elephant antics, Terminator (the first catridge based game I ever played on the commodore.. No more waiting 6 years to load a tape).. Bubble Bobble. Can't remember much of the rest.. I gamed most on my Master System when I was a wee bucko.

On the Mega drive - Altered Beast, Shinobi, Sonic, Golden Axe, Road Rash, Streets of Rage 1 & 2 (3 sucked), Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 1-3, Fatal Fury 1 & 2, Moonwalker.. Jaysus, I'll be here all day if I named them all - Same as SNES (Mario World, SF 2, Starwing) being my favourites. Dlofnep bought starwing a month before christmas and stared at the cool graphics on the back of the box until christmas, wishing he could play it.

Spent a serious amount of time playing the mega-drive in my younger days. Favourite games would have been Sonic,Steets of Rage and Konami's Zombies. What a game!:D

Space Invaders Part II - Best game ever.

We had a table one in a bar I worked in in the 90's.

Like the Part 1 only more colour and the invaders sometimes split into two when you hit them and sometimes even more invaders were dropped in from above.

To be uber-nerdy you start the first level, take out the left 3 columns in 22 shots, then slide over to the right and wait for a flying saucer that will come from the left and will be worth 300 points (not 50 heh).

Then shoot 14 shots into the air and slide left across under the invaders to wait for a flashing 500 point spaceship coming from the right (shoot it on it's 10th flash).

Then repeat the process of shooting 14 shots and sliding across from one side to the other to pick up the 300 point saucer coming from the opposite end. It had a satisfying kind of symmetry to it. The thing was not to start blasting invaders for as long as possible (because it speeds them up) and to get as many 300 point saucers as possible before gradually picking the invaders off.

Same with levels 2 and 3 though they start progressively lower. Levels 4, 5 and 6 were fairly identical though fraught enough and no time for counting shots. Levels 7, 8 and 9 were purely taking the p1ss, and if you managed to clear 9 and weren't reduced to a frenzied, dribbling basket case it all started again, only harder.

Another different thing you could do was shoot all the invaders except 1 column, then take out the column leaving the lowest invader till last, then you get a 500 bonus and the screen did a big rainbow.

    Geek central lol!

    Centipede on Atari 2600

Super Mario Bros 3 on NES (Which I still believe is the best game I have played, although admittedly I havent played any of the current consoles)

    Double Dragon 3 on NES
Faxanadu on NES (Which really was an original concept at the time)

    Sonic on Master Drive

Also, there was a thing on the mega drive where you 6 games together. There was a soccer game and a motorbike game on it. The motor bike game was deadly, cant remember the name of it

Wonder if it was Road Rash? You could buy bigger bikes and stuff, pull chains off other riders and batter them. When you'd crash a little ambulance would come along and carry you away, sometimes they'd leave you there and take the bike.:D

Dont think so. I would have remembered the ambulance and chains. But you could upgrade your bike as you won races and buy better ones etc.

We had a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It was incredible fun. You go off have your dinner, your dessert, brush your teeth, come back and then game still wouldn't have loaded.

There was a whole load of games we used to have for it, but I don't know where they're all gone now.

In the arcades it was 'Tron' ... remember that?:)
Used to have an Atari 800 and would type in the programs that were listed in the computer mags (some programs had hundreds of lines of 'code'!!) good geeky fun.:o
Remember 'Dungeon Master' on the PC and a bit later 'Captive' (man, that was one HUGE game!):D

I had a Commodore Amiga. The best thing about it I never had to buy any games because you could just copy all the discs.

Cannon Fodder, Syndicate and Lotus Turbo Challenge were my favourites

we had a commodore 64 in the early 80's,2 games spring to mind. one was "tooth invaders",a game where you had to brush and floss 2 sets of teeth before the plaque destroyed them all. i'm pissing myself laughing just thinking about it.

the other was "zaxxon",was like a fighter jet in the classic space invaders style, just blow up stuff. great fun.:D
