Looking for a bit of help here guys.Im planning my first warm weather training trip in April for my club athletes who are between the ages of 15 and 19.Im planning on only bringing my national standard athletes as im afraid they wouldnt get the full benefit if they were being held back by the others. The group mainly consists of hurdlers and sprinters with some eventers, distance runners and walkers there too. Here are a few questions-

1.Where is the best place to go? As of now Monte Gordo is leading the way.
2.Small group of 8 to 12[National standard] or large group of 20 to 25[All at least provincial standard] to travel?
3.Should everyone have a training partner?ie.If i have one National standard pole vaulter should i bring an average pole vaulter just so he has somebody to train with?
4.Club officials only or allow parents who want to travel?
    5.Any other help?

I always tought sportsworld were only distance runners? Just looked at the site, looks ok but seems to be more of a health and fitness spot than specific elite athletics spot.If i way off the mark and somebody has been there let me know.Monte Gordo also has an indoor athletics training area just incase the weather goes belly up.
    Thanks Woddle!:)

I have been to Montegordo twice (April & May) previously went to Tenerife (Playa de las Americas) four times and Gran Canaria (Masplomas [sic]) once.

As a long sprinter the tracks in the Canaries were particulary hard, with no grass to run on (infield were football pitches) and in Tenerife in particular the staff were very protective of it. Long throwers were not well catered for with no long throws in the infield.

Tenerife was also very busy over the Easter Holidays with a mix of national and club squads, Sweden, Belguim and Netherland squads all there, however the weather was consistently good.

Montegordo has a very good setup, nice track, good trails and road nearby (some marked) all events catered for.
Negatives two things weather not guaranteed and the small town itself is not the biggest, you can hire bikes to get around but besides a bar with free wireless there really is not much to do.

Not a problem if you are out with international standard athletes, who are focused but in a large group with some provincial level athetes cabin fever could kick in.

As well as the Irish squad, GB, Germany, Poland, Finland and Russian national squads have been out there while I was. As a result a peak times the track has been even more hectic than Tenerife.

A lane booking system is also in operation.

I have heard from clubmates that Cyprus is fairly good (Paphos?)

Excellent. Thanks for that.I hadnt considered Tenerife but had heard of Paphos alrite.I had been told about the weather in Monte Gordo alrite and it is a worry, not too worried about it being an isolated spot though.
Whats drawing me towards Monte Gordo is the general set up,it seems to have the best facilities
