    I agree.

Although I strongly disagree with the beliefs of the Catholic Church, they should be allowed to give their opinion on issues that will affect their parishioners.

If the Gov don't agree with the Church, they should have an open debate about it, not some sneaky pre-emptive strike like this.

I am also opposed to the docterines of the Catholic Church nevertheless they have the right to the freedom off speech and in particular should be entitled to hand out free literature at their place of worship. It is not like as if they are sneaking around to pubs at night trying to push their beliefs.

This type of media censorship is synonymous with Nazi Germany. God knows what else they will try to ban in the lead up to the next EU Constitution vote.

Absolutely, the state has no right to dictate to what paper or literature is distributed within church property. We live in a so called democracy where there is freedom of speech anything other than this is fascism.

It would be a different story if a "church" was involved in something that was against the security of the state such as supporting terrorism then the state has the right to intervene.

Source, where did you hear that?

Banning a journal is the worst thing that any authority can do, those living in the North can tell you when An Phoblacht was distributed throughout the the troubles, it flourished and was probably the best selling paper. This recent episode with Alive has already generated some interest in even from non Catholics that never heard of it before.

Here is the online link to their web site. http://www.alive.ie/

here is all the back issues including the controversial June issue. :D

I can see this paper going down the same road as an Phoblacht did during the troubles. He may be able to ban it from inside churches but he couldn't stop the destribution of it outside church property.

What exactly did he say? Did he actually say "church doesn't want the paper there"?

Alive is the sun for right wing evangelists essentially,

I can understand why any organisation who have any sense would want to distance themselves from it.

it is propaganda pure and simple.

Not saying we should stop them,
its important to note that they wouldnt be so sympathetic to others who they differ with if they had the power to stop them.

The Roman Catholic Church urged people to read the arguments and vote whichever way their conscience led them, if I remember rightly. Giving their parishioners access to both arguments is helping them in that aim - should the government be asking a church to deliberately conceal some arguments from its flock?
