I know there's been a lot of negtaive comments directed his way from people on here, but Garcia is really showing signs of stepping things up a little.

Great win there today in the HSBC - his third win in three weeeks. He also played very well in the Volvo Masters. The win at the TPC seems to have been a bit of a turning point for him

I know there's an anti-Sergio sentiment among some Irish because of his rivalry with Harrington, but have to say, i'm a big fan. I think 2009 could be a very big year for him... hopefully he'll end it with a major in the bag!

Until he does i guess there will still be a few doubts about his true quality, but he really is starting to look like living up to the potential he's always had.

    You buggah!!

I'm watching the playoff now and you've spoilt it.
    :)

I'm a big fan of Garcia's. He keeps plugging away and is one of the best golfers to watch......never a dull moment.

Was delighted to hear Garcia won on the morning news but also disappointed to hear Oliver Wilson had another runner-up... must be 5 or 6 times this year he's been 2nd best.
It's great to see Garcia as a winner and the more we see the likes of him and Westwood up there challenging the better, especially come Major time.

Sorry Stockdam! That'll teach you for doing two things at once... that's for women!

I think Garcia is a cert for a major next year.
He will go into the coming year with a lot of confidence.
He would also like to do this for Seve.

He's made some blunders - thrown his shoe at a sponsor's board, spat in the cup but it's very human the way he is genuinely embarrassed and apologetic for his stupid actions. Like most good golfers, his determination can manifest itself in negative ways. It grates with me when others paint a permanent plastic grin on their face. I agree these guys are role models and need to curb these things to set a good example for kids but going over the top on this is something I think has had a hand in the huge reduction of "characters" in the game.

Thankfully, we'll have SG for some time to come who is very much one of these.

The media portrays him as an enthusiastic lover of the game who genuinely doesn't mind the hassle of fame. Obviously I'd be scheptical about this kind of portrayal but from my experience it's quite true.

I got an autograph off him the year he won the Irish Open and also met him at a bar in Ibiza this summer. With a few drinks on board I actually said hello to him but he was actually quite chatty to me and my gf. I just said hi and that I was there the day he won his first tour event and it was great to see him do so well ever since but he yapped away for a few mins about the 3 wood he hit on the par 5 etc.

Nice story Shriek, he sounds like a nice chap.
Hope you weren't indulging in the local specialities usually associated with Ibiza at the time:eek::D

I've always had time for Sergio, he's young, determined and what's more he has a bit of character, a far cry from a lot of the machines on tour.

I think the bad impressions of him come from his reactions after the two majors that harrington beat him in, Especially Carnoustie. I have a lot of time for him though as a golfer and was extremely impressed with his conduct recently in the tournament he hosted and he is also playing extremely well at the moment. I think he is at the point where Harrington was a few years ago in that he really has to win a major to prove that he is progressing.

I have to say though that I was hoping that Ollie wilson would do it last night. He is a sound fella and really deserves a win. There arent too many golfers who get into the top 50 in the world and ryder cup without winning but I'm sure he will soon. I hope he does as he is one of the most consistant guys out there on tour.

Agreed about Wilson. Even though I love watching Garcia I was hoping that WIlson would win as he deserves it.

Great golfer and potentially greater but his own worst enemy. Does seem to have a bit of a character flaw which after his initial bursting onto the scene but not living up to his (and our) hopes (yet) seems to cast him in a bad light at times. The nearlyman underachiever tag pressur seems to be getting to him and he isnt handling it with the greatest composure.

Defenitely the finest golfer who cant really putt at world class level since Hogan.

(BTW I dont remember him being too contrite or apologetic for the spitting incident, instead trying to deny it with some wacky explanation about "not spitting, just letting it go" or something like that)
