Over the Limit?

I was sitting at home yesterday evening having a curry and a couple of beers when I began to think.... "If I want to drive somewhere later I won't be able to because I've had these beers"*

Now, it was around 18.30, I had 2 bottles of 5.5% lager with a curry (between 18.30 - 19.00), would I be over the limit at say 21.30, if I wanted to drive somewhere.

*I didn't drive anywhere later on - I was just wondering

There's no equation for it. Get a decent home breathalyser if you want to know.

    1man + 2beers = 3road deaths

You forgot to factor in the 5.5% and the time delay between consumption and driving. Very worst case scenario is 0.38 road deaths according to my quackulations.

apparently it takes the auld bod 1 hour to process a unit of alco, which i believe is equal to half pint of beer. what size were the bottles?

Probably not a good idea to drive. Imagine you were in an accident and you were asked if you had a drink, what would you say? Regardless of whether there was a smell of alcohol from your breath, over the limit or not, your position won't be considered favourable if questioned by a Garda, a judge or an insurance company.

What affects the amount of alcohol in your blood...

Thats not correct. That doesn't take into account if the consumer is of average weight, Male/female, hungry/full, straight/ghey

    straight/ghey

Indeed. Flamboyant drinking may skew the average result.

+1. I always found it to be a suspiciously convenient rule of thumb. 1 unit takes 1 hour. I assume that since it's used by various agencies to promote safe drinking that it errs on the side of caution. e.g. a skinny short hungry straight female who has recently given blood..... but then you never know. Personally I don't think authorities should be spouting out such general rules of thumb for something that is so variable.

Judge: It's quite clear that you were going too fast to cope with the unexpected the dog should not have been out on the road like that.

They say it takes approximately 1 hour for every drink, so if you have two hours you should not drive for AT LEAST two hours. I dont know however how truthful this is, it would also depend on the individuals build etc.

Best to just not drive at all, if had any drink at all.

I was in a similar situation on Saturday actually. I went to a bar with a few friends to watch the Man Utd match. I had one of those 560ml bottles of Bulmers, and the guy gave me a ****load of ice which would have diluted it. But I didn't realise until I was almost finished my drink that we were going to go somewhere after, and I was the only one in the group that drives. So since I had one drink we had to get a bus, walk in the rain to get lunch and to go to the train station. Get a train. Walk 40 minutes in the extremely heavy rain to my friend's house. My shoes were still wet yesterday morning, and we got a taxi back that night. I didn't want to chance it because I didn't know how long it'd take for me to be ok to drive.

Important to consider the bore of said receptacle; i.e. that of a wizards sleeve or, the empty cardboard tube from toilet roll.

    Carry on.
