what do you listen to while running, or do u listen to nothing?

I'm looking for suggestions as to what to add to mine basically. I've been bouncing back and forth from music to podcasts. can cant decide on what type of music suits me best.

    audio books anyone???

Concentrate on form rather than listening to music?

I like to listen to music while running. Sometimes if I'm out for an easy run a bit of Aphex Twin, Colleen or John Coltrane can be cool - helps relaxation.
When I want to push it Rocky Balboa Soundtrack. Cheesy but great - all the theme music from the films inc Eye of the tiger, Burning Heart etc. This def adds 5-10% to my intensity.
Some other stuff -Sage Francis, Eminem, Buck 65 -hard rap stuff.
Isis, Death, Suicidal Tendencies. Bit of metal is great for busting a gut.
When I run in Lees Rd woods in Ennis sometimes its nice just to listen to nature - trees , the wind.

dont run with any thing. I have tried it in the past but i found that when i was getting tired on my runs the last thing i needed was music in my ear. i find it easier just to go out and run with no ipod

I just listen to the voices in my head.

Rarely run with music, I like to take in the sights and sounds of beautiful Dublin! I have taken the ipod the odd time though, and just stuck it on shuffle. Shuffle is a mistake probably, when the likes of Radiohead come on I just think 'I should make a playlist of more beat-driven stuff'. Friend of mine swears by Arctic Monkeys and Bruce Springsteen (Born to Run, obviously :D) when running.

I tend to a lot of power metal when I run - the usuals are Sonata Arctica, Iron Maiden, Terasbetoni, Dragonforce, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Kamelot etc.
That said though, I'll listen to pretty much anything relatively fast. Another odd quirk of my running music is that occasionally I prefer to have stuff that's either instrumental or not in English on while I'm running. If I'm having a non-English music day it tends to be bands like Stam1na, Terasbetoni, Kotiteollisuus, Rammstein, X-Japan, Korpiklaani... among others.

    Yes, I'm weird.

Love my running podcasts when I run. Its great to listen to top athletes talk about their training while Im doing my run.

I listen to the final sprint podcast, Nike's Loop podcast and the running times podcast. If anyone else knows any other good running podcasts Id love to hear.

Like my film podcasts as well and of course my Spurs podcast;)

I find after all those podcasts I dont have much time left for music and tbh I probably prefer running with no music. Interestingly I find the more I run the more associative I become about it. When I started I couldnt run with =out the ipod and was always spacing off, now I find I pay much more attaention to my body and breathing during the run so its no big deal if I have no ipod.

My friend has a great podcast which I usually listen to when I run: mytopfive.wordpress.com

You give 5 suggestions on the weeks theme and he picks them for the 'cast. Decent length too so you don't often have to fiddle with the 'pod - I wear one of these so that's the last thing you want: http://www.crunchgear.com/2007/02/01/nike-hatphones/

    Hatphones ftw!!!

Use the mp3 on my long and easy runs.
Usually 80s/90s heavy rock/metal. W.A.S.P, motorhead, maiden, twisted sister, motley crew, etc, etc, you get the drift.

Funnily enough yesterday when I was stretching after a short run, also wincing as I tended to my dodgy right knee, this line from Munich by Editors came up on my shuffle:
"People are fragile things, you should know by now. Be careful what you put them through."

    Is it a sign?

I use my ipod for weight training and the odd time I use the cardio machines in the gym. I have "speed", "thumping" and "stretching" playlists.

Only use the iPod when I'm on the threadmill about once per week - have my running mix loaded with cheese from the 80's. :D

    zip, rien, nada, nothing...

It gets in the way of the absolute nonsense that goes through my head...

And I like to concentrate on cars not hitting me and getting a heads up on any dogs chasing me
