This is an absolutely wonderful documentary.. wonderful in that you get an insight into a truly sick family led by a despicable women.

Louis Theroux spends some time as a guest of Westboro Baptist Church and their appalling attitudes towards the world. These are people who picket the funerals of dead servicemen, upsetting mourning relatives. They parade the streets with home-made placards bearing messages such as "God Hates Fags", and "Thank God for 9/11".

This documentary made my blood absolutely boil.. but it's engaging stuff nonetheless.

It's started at 11 on Dave, but should be on Dave + 1 in about 40 minutes.

Theroux's so calm and composed in this... so much better an approach than Keith Allen's angry, confrontational one when he met with the Phelps family.

Fascinating stuff. And really, all down to evil, insane Fred Phelps (personally I'm convinced he's a closet homosexual) and how he warped his children's and grandchildren's minds. They're not bad people.

Is his show on plastic surgery in the US which follows this worth a look?

Practically every one of his documentaries is worth a look... Louis has a certain charm that makes him appears to intentively interested to the person he's interviewing / chatting to while he's conveying to the audience he's taking the piss!

Used to loathe the guy immensely.. but he truly is very talented and watchable!

I'm a huge fan of all his documentaries. Some very interesting viewing.

Saw the one he did on porn there last week and it was very good as well.

Yeah seen the Phelps family show a couple of years ago... What a bunch of lunatics. Louis is great at handling the situations that he gets into though. Great presenting style.

Seen another one of his shows recently where he becomes a stock car driver in southern USA somewhere... Great show.

Yeah what a fantastic name for a TV station (used to be UKTVG2 or something).

I thought that was horrible - the poor little guy was so upset and his parents are loathsome for putting him in that position.

Great viewing. All Louis stuff is must see.

One of the phelps girls is actually pretty 3.gif She comes across as being very friendly, and very well spoken. Just seemed that she was brainwashed t'fcuk. It did seem though there were times she struggled with the beliefs, and wasn't able to describe why she felt the way she did. Sad really.

Anyone ever see the destruction derby one? Louis+rednecks+smashing of cars = good times.

Louis Theroux's documentaries (including this one) are always fascinating. The man has a way of engaging with some despicable/odd characters

Ya think he should be giving so much publicity to a family who are clearly dysfunctional and in need of some kind of help.I felt very uneasy watching this documentary.

Exposes the irrationality of them and their beliefs. Doesn't get in their face, or put words in their mouth, just allows them to dig their own grave. For me, this is a good thing.

Well they promote their crazed beliefs themselves anyway so it's not as if people don't know they're messed up. What you've said is actually far more applicable to the X Factor.
Great viewing. All Louis stuff is must see.
Yeah, anyone see Louis Meets The Nazis or the one where he met Michael Jackson's dad? Brilliant stuff, but so tense and not always comfortable viewing, but that's what makes it so good.

A few of them are. I was expecting a bunch of inbred mutants. They are the exact opposite - well spoken, articulate, polite, attractive, dignified. It's bizarre. It seems like they'd be lovely people except for when they're doing their thing. Even the mother comes across as not that dislikeable. I've read about Fred Phelps' household when his many children were growing up though. Not nice to read - he was seemingly horrifically abusive.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Kinda confuses ya, cause it makes it more difficult to really despise them. If they were more like this woman, then it would be more straightforward, and easy to see why they hold such beliefs.

Yeah, she's just ignorant, uneducated (not saying one needs to be university educated, just maybe read a book or newspaper or watch a documentary once in a while) and a simpleton... the Phelps family are the opposite.
