Ram & Graphics Card Help

It will only fit if you bought a Low Profile version, otherwise for it to work you'd have to take off the backplate and have the side panel off all the time. :D

The card should look like this height wise:

If it looks like this you're out of luck.

    Ram should work without issue.

The 8500GT is crap anyway, very slow card. Can you return it to where you got it? Look at the 4550, excellent low profile card, much, much faster then the 8500GT and well under 80 euro - this one comes with a low profile plate as well so you can use it straight out of the box, some low profile cards require the seperate purchasing of that plate.

The video memory on board a card has nothing to do with the actual motherboard, any decent card uses DDR3 memory and has done for several years now. DDR2 features on cheap, budget or media center parts, basically anything not ideal for gaming, or aimed at those on extreme budgets (or, at times, to those who don't know anything about the different memories). It's far slower then DDR3.

The 8600GT is also quite good and as long as you got the DDR3 model it would be about the same speed as the 4550 but - the 4550 is a little cheaper, and also has a lower power consumption and, as far as reviews are saying, less noise.

2.0 is backwards compatible, so don't worry about that.

What size is your monitor? And you're welcome. :)

The only thing is that the C521 is a low profile machine - and the fastest low profile card, as best as I'm aware, IS the 4550 or DDR3 8600GT. No better card would fit unless you removed the cards backplate and the side panel of your case, but that's hardly convenient.

It's not a killer gaming card but it's capable. If you're using a 17 or 19" monitor, either 1280x800 or 1440x900, Gears of War 2 and COD5 should run at decent settings, medium-ish - The games will look decent, in any case.

For example here are a few pictures of Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War running on my old Mobile 8600GT with DDR2 memory - the 4550 would be about a 10-20% improvement on this, give or take a percent or two. So this is more or less what you'd be achieving, with some improvement:

And don't worry the 4550 will work fine on your machine. It's not demanding power wise, the power requirements are always grossly over-stated on boxes by companies to cover themselves - added to that, Dell power supplies are always stronger then advertised anyway.

Your only choice is the 4550 and 8600GT - I'd advise the 4550 as it's cheaper, and comes with the LP backplate in the box - it's win win.

Forget the 8500GT though, you are looking at 50% the performance of the 4550/8600GT for a similar price.
