Walk out of movie.

Has anyone ever walked out of a movie at the cinema? I'm just wondering what the cut-off point would be for asking for your money back. If you walked out after a half an hour should you be entitled to a refund?

I don't think you can ask for a refund if you dislike a film, never heard of anyone trying that though I know allot of people walked out of Apocalypto because it wasn't in English and they got fed up waiting for Mel Gibson to appear.

I know if there is a technical problem you can for example one of those POTC films was put together in the wrong order by the projectionist in my local and a refund was offered I've also known couples/groups trying to get a refund because when they arrive in there is no seats for them to sit all together.

I've never walked out of a film though I've sat there many a times waiting for some films to end but I'm not out of pocket so I don't mind.

Most places have a policy where you can get refunded if you leave within a certain time frame of the film starting. I've never personally done it but I have a weird habit where I have to finish a film after watching about 20 minutes otherwise it'll drive me crazy.. :(

  • You wont get a refund for not liking a film..

Its akin to buying a bottle of coke in tesco, drinking half of it, and then asking for a refund cause you don't like coke.

Don't forget, cinemas are businesses too.

With regards to walking out of a film, I've not yet managed to leave during one. I'd prefer to judge something in its entirety than in bits and pieces, and I'd like to give the film the chance to bring itself back from a bad start.

Unfortunately, this means that I had to see all of "Hairspray" and "Halloween" the remake....

    I've gotten refunds twice.
One was for technical issues for the screen.
And the other was the emergency exit signs weren't lit for some reason so they made an announcement and delayed the start of the film for 20 minutes till the electrician sorted it. You could hang about or you go and get your refund. Must be taken safety seriously in that place

Never heard of them giving refunds if you don't like the film

I walk out of films all the time! But I've got an unlimited cinema card, so it's not like I'm losing money.

I'm the same, never leave a film. The group I go to the cinema with follow my lead, so I'm pretty clued up before going. But even if it's terrible, I'd like to have an informed opinion so that, at the very least, I can warn people off!

I guess it's a case of "caveat emptar". The cinema doesn't force you to hand over the €10, you make the decision whether or not to see the movie.

Surely sometimes though you find yourself sitting there thinking "My money is contributing to this goddawful movie's gross profit".

Walked out of 'A knights tale' a few years back after about twenty minutes. Was rudddy awful. Didnt even occur to me to ask for refund. Was my own fault for picking a terrible film.

I've walked out of one film - The Talented Mister Ripley. I was so pissed off it didn't occur to ask for a refund.

Date Movie and Beerfest, turned up at the cinema and my friends had bought tickets both times, made them leave after 20 mins. Ended up going to Pulse one of the times, which actually seemed half decent in comparison despite being awful.

Myself and the missus were going to see a movie in the cinema on Parnell St (Dublin) a couple of years ago. The guy at the counter seemed confused that we wanted to see that particular film and even tried to dissuade us from buying tickets for it as according to him and his colleagues it was "shoite".

He got a bit red faced when I told him my missus was in the film.

It was still crap though :D

Would've walked out of Corpse Bride but it was a date and she liked it a bit. Awful film though, didn't know it was gonna be a musical! WALL:E I came close to walking out of as I didnt care about how the film would end, also I was extremely hungover and had gotten sick about 20 mins before the film started :(

Walked out of The Avengers Movie ages ago because I thought it was crap compared to the TV series.

Left another movie (can't remember what it was for the life of me) and went into Beerfest, which we left (unanimous group decision) after about 5 minutes.

Seems like we're all too polite to ask for our money back. :pac:

Only movie i considered leaving was 13 ghosts. terrible stuff. Didn't bother leaving in the end, had got in for free and was just using it to kill some time.

when I went to see revolver people were leaving by the bucket load. Was only my mate and me and 3 other people at the back left. The staff came in and gave us free ice cream.

Nearly walked out of Speed Dating, an irish film, it was muck but had too many sweets left.

Nearly asked for my money back when I went to see the Matrix (the 2nd one) and there was a huge que to get into the screen. When we eventually got in the film had already started!

Considered it during Deuce Bigalow European Gigalo, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Just about stayed, only thanks to the slightly amusing scenes with Eddie Griffin (which occured maybe once every 25 minutes....)

Would have walked out of Wallace and Gromit; settled for a nap as the girlfriend was with me and loved every second of it. But admittedly that was just because I didn't like that type of film then it being inherently bad.

Other then that I'm pretty damn tolerant and usually I wouldn't even begin to contemplate leaving no matter how bad a movie was....

Saw the Hebrew Hammer - well, more honestly, saw 10 minutes of the Hebrew Hammer. Had to switch it off after 10 minutes, it was so painfully unfunny that I felt embarrassed watching it. Maybe it improves after that mark, but I couldn't stick around to find out. I just don't understand with movies like that, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie and so on - do people actually find them funny, or do they just go desperately hoping the movie will be funny each and every time a new one comes out?

Never walked out of a film. Can't remember ever coming out of a movie wailing that it was awful. I'm pretty sure the worst movie I ever saw in a cinema was the last Indiana Jones. Not worth of a walk out though.

That said, I go to the cinema at most once a month, so I make sure I pick something half-decent. Don't waste my money going to see bad comedies any more.

Did the cheapskates not invite her to the premiere? Making their own cast pay to see the film! Jaysus.

I walked out of The Green Mile. It was boring and the girl I was with got scared by the electric chair scene.

Got a free ticket for another movie after No Country For Old Men in Cineworld because the heat was on full blast for the whole thing and it was really uncomfortable.

Myself and a mate somehow ended up in the wrong screen the other night and watched the first 5 minutes of pride and glory.
At first we were just saying we may as stay and watch it, then come back tomorrow to see Bond... After 5 minutes of that drivel we soon changed our minds!

Walked out of The Avengers. I've blocked out all memories of the movie so I can't remember quite how bad it was.

Brought the kids to see Deck the Halls a couple of years back. It was THE worst film ever. I wasn't walking out though. The kids forced themselves to sit through it and I had a nice nap!

Nah, I quite liked it, but I can see how others might not. I thought that it suffered from some epic mis-casting. I mean, Elijah Wood as an assassin? Brittany Murphy? Clive Owen? Alexis Bledel (Rory from Gilmore Girls) as a prostitute? Cripes!

On topic, I've only ever walked out of one film: Bound. By 1/3 of the way through, I'd seen plenty of style, but no substance, no story, no reason for me to sit in a cinema when I could be doing something else. It was the Prince Charles Cinema in London, back when you could watch a movie during the day for £1, so I didn't ask for a refund.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Beer Fest started terribly but had a few decent laughs after the first 20 minutes.

I stopped watching Date Movie after 10 minutes and would have done the same if it was in a cinema.

My biggest regret is not walking out on Pearl Harbour.

If you hate the Apatow style films so much why did you keep going back to them?

It was only when I was writting the above that I realised I dont like Apatow. I doubt I was the only one to walk out

Why should somebody get a refund just because they didn't like the movie? It's their own choice for picking it in the first place.

I only thought of it now but I remember watch Indy 4 (shudders) during that cringeworthy scene
Going down the waterfalls when the went down the first two and stayed in the jeep I rememebr saying that if it happened again
I was going to get up and walk out.

Awful awful film I still get white rage thinking about it.
