metal workshop to do small job, in dublin

think this is the most applicable forum for this question.

I have a tiny job, to get a few small pieces made accurately from 1/4"stainless steel plate.

Is there any workshop in dublin that can do this when given diagrams? Most engineering companies only do large contacts. This is something an expirienced worker could knock up in less than an hour but beyond my capabilities given the limited access to tools that i have.

    any advice would be appriciated.

    Thanks

try DIT or somewhere colegial. they might let you use a shop if you ask nicely and waive all injury rights.

and 6mm ss is a pain to work with but not impossible in a home setting, how accurate need they be?

unfortunately it has to be brutally accurate. its for a mirror cell in a large telescope. large mirrors flex a small amount and the cell has to support them in the exactly correct points to ensure flexure, and thus image distorsion are kept to a minimium.

I can also do it in aluminium, but have to doubble the thickness so would be somewhere around 10-12 mm thick.

ah, I see. Well precision engineering and sheds are not mutually exclusive.. but..

You could also approach a fitter personally and ask him to do it, rather than a company, if you are familiar with any. many are happy for the nixers/break from same pieces over and over.

only other thing I could say is that brass might be a decent in-between easier to work than ss and stronger than Al. and shouldn't leech any corrosion to the mirror

Tritech Precision should be able to do this (website seems to have been hacked by some enthusiastic Turks!):

We've used them before for some small-run (or once-off) custom components, quality seems to be fine.

thanks for the recommendation, once i have my drawings finalized il contact them for a quote. if its gona cost too much i could just purchase a ready made cell for 200-300 quid. Its only 6 triangles and 6 bars that have to be cut and bored accurately so cant see it taking an experienced engineer/ workshop technician more than an hour. anyway, we'l see. thanks again.
