i want to know something and maby people here can help me. i want to know down the country do people have a more relaxed or simple way of life than in dublin? what i mean is, you know the way dublin is quite formal for example in service sector jobs no matter what job it is, most places require a pretty strict dresscode. its the same in usa, the cities are much more strict in this regard but as you go out into the country everything becomes much more simple and there doesnt seem to be the same effort to impress. so i want to know is it the same here.

Are you one of those Dubliners who think that the rest of ireland is in the shticks?

I think that we use better string to hold up our corduroy trousers than they do in the big city.

Ah, he's hardly being serious. He'll say he is, but he's not. Only trying to wind you up...

OP, where specifically is "down the country"?

Also, I don't really think work dress code is dictated by how urban/non-urban an area is, moreso the actual company...

Laytown, Gormanstown, Ashbourne, Clonee, Leixlip, Celbridge, Blessington, Enniskerry, Bray. They'd all be down the country. ;)

    lol

The fact that you picked out bray for your lol almost means you are agreeing with the other location being borderline down the country.

The fact that I picked out Bray for a lol has, in fact, nothing to do with this thread.

No, the fact that he picked out Bray for his lol means that he knows his girlfriend is going to bate the shíte out of me next time she sees me. :p

Lol.. come on dudess, everyone knows the only 'companies' down the country are Supermacs and Spar. Then again, I guess they do have a dresscode.

I was trying the "Dumb Insolence" approach. That normally works when the city-slickers come down here and ask for directions to the nearest Aston Martin dealership.

To be fair, we just can't get that stuff in Dublin, otherwise we'd use it too.

lol chip on the shoulder there.

I dont think the OP was questioning peoples fashion sense. The thread is about the differing degree of formality between business in city areas, as opposed to more rural areas.

but yeah, its good to know you dress nice....
