Borovets - which airport?

Been looking into Bulgaria, and I like the sound of Borovets. Only problem is I can't find out which airport I should be looking to fly into!

Besides that, can anyone recommend relatively cheap accommodation? Doesn't have to be luxory in any way, shape or form.

    Thanks.

You should fly into Sofia. Thats the nearest 1 to Boro.
Is it just yourself looking for accom? If so then you are probably better of looking for a chalet. If theres 2 or more it works out cheaper sometimes to go for a hotel

I went there a couple of years ago and half of our group flew into Sofia and the rest of us into Plovdiv. Didn't make a whole lot of difference to the transfer times as far as we could tell, but Plovdiv airport was a bit on the small side for an international airport.

Can't complain about the female security officers uniforms though.:D

Problem is I'm having a hard time getting people to commit, so not sure how much to look for in accommodation :/

I cannot remember the prices that we paid for accommodation now, just that it was very cheap. It wasn't a bad place that we stayed in either, but it was a walk away from the lifts and the centre of town although certainly doable in regular shoes before skiing or even after a few beers as we left our skis/ boots in the rental place at Hotel Samkov(?) in the centre.

Beer is ridiculously cheap though and I think we worked it out as being about 50p a pint, I was with a majority of GBP users on that trip so all prices were converted to sterling to figure out the cheapness of it all.

I personally find the Samokov to be a gr8 hotel, but it is a small bit old fashioned. It has everything you could ever need in it though; many many bars, bowling alley, ski depot, restaurant etc etc
Are you booking your trip through a Ski operator or are you DIYing it?
Obviously its cheaper to DIY. Cheapest place i found a pint for was in the Alpina ( Oposite the gondola) which was €1 a pint at happy hour then €1.80 at normal hours

If you have any question about boro in general, feel free to pm me
I was there last season and im going again this season so i know a bit about the place :-)

Thanks Tripp, I might take you up on that. Ideally I'd like to DIY but I think I've left it too late at this stage, I can see myself taking a panic trip down to an agent.

Well last season we used Topflight and i cant fault them but this year we are DIYing it and it worked out that we are actually saving €100 per person by Making all the arrangement ourselves.

We are getting everything that we would of got with topflight and extra ( Ski/Snowboard Equipment + Lift Passes)

Oh and no its not too late. You still have time, I would say that by the end of this month it may be too late and prices might go up

Well guys, I had the trip all but booked and a few people have had to pull out so it's in the can :(

I had a really nice chalet lined up, and the property managers were so good to deal with I told them I'd at least give them a bit of a plug as an apology for cancelling on them. So if anyone is still looking for something, then this chalet is still available from January 17th to the 24th. www.chaletborovets.com

I nearly had my flights booked on all, I'm counting my lucky stars I decided to hold off a bit. I was going Dublin to Sofia with Aer Lingus, it was fairly reasonable overall.

First time in years I haven't been able to get away, so there'll be some serious withdrawals :(

    aww unlucky :-(
Thats the bad thing about going away with other people. If they pull out, it ruins the whole holiday :(

Good choice of chalet btw. If they are the ones im thinking of then they are right across from the Gondola

That looks like a seriously good price there for those chalets. I seem to remember some chalets right next to the gondola oposite the Samkov, but their write up says they are 3 minutes walk away, still very close though but think they must be different ones to what I was thinking of. The AerLingus flights to Sofia seem to be pretty cheap as well. Time to see if I can round up enough people for a cheap trip to Bulgaria.
