Thats funny. They remind me of the old school communists in Russia who still harbour a hope for a return to the old days and still have pictures of Stalin on their kitchen wall:D They really are the dinosaurs of the sport. Instead of being awkward they should be having a look at themselves and asking why the Dublin County Board have the 2nd lowest participation levels in the country of all county boards. Less focus on oneupmanship and acting the maggot and more focus on the athletes.

Just out of interest Tingle, which county has the lowest participation levels in the country?

Longford. All I did was took the membership numbers from the congress report and used the 2006 census figures for population. Cavan, Meath, Kilkenny, Carlow & Roscommon have the best figures. Longford, Dublin, Westmeath, Offaly & Galway the worst.

And Dublin still get their own County championships counted as a provincial!
    Ridiculous!!!
Maybe they should have an executives position aswell along with Cork of course? Oh wait they tried that already and fell flat on their faces when Cork had no interest!:D

    Did anyone go the EGM???

And just in a reply to helpisontheway...dublin dont count as a provenice.
I should know I was a dublin delegate at congress(SHOCK HORROR).

The only reason the Dublin motion to upgrade to a provinenice was due to the anti BHAA stance in Dublin board.

I did not say that Dublin is a province. My point is that Dublin clubs at juvenile level do not have to qualify for All Irelands from their province which is Leinster!!!A bit unfair really!

As for the Dublin motion i cannot remember it being explained that way at Congress.:oI tought it was due to the supposed large membership in Dublin?

Juvenile's is a true point. There has been discussions to move Dublin into Leinster at Juvenille level, however Leinster are not too keen on this. It probably will happen, but when...I couldnt tell you.
There was previosuly 6 regions as far as Im aware, but Cork rejoined Munster.

As for the Dublin motion at Congress, one I did not support. The point made to have Cork and Dublin as region's was due to the negotaions to have BHAA as full AAI members. The rummor's mill suggested that if BHAA became an AAI member they would have a commitee membership, smiliar to Leinster, Ulster, NI athletics etc. However Micheal Heery pointed out that the BHAA have been offered a rep on the Competition commitee.

Do you remember the Dublin motion that all Counties should get 10% of the AAI membership fees? Then the AAI solictor ruled it out of order because it was unfesiable!

That was my favourite moment to tell you the truth. Both Those Dublin motions were proposed by the same person.

So the be all and end all is and I assume agreed by all is that the Dublin Board should focus not on petty politics or amendments or stirring but on getting more athletes in the clubs and improve their current average of 0.24% of the population to the average outside Dublin of 0.72%, an improvement that would see 5,709 new athletes in the sport or a 22% increase in the number of athletes in Ireland, thus increasing our chances of winning medals at future games or champs by 22% which in turn would make the sport more popular and see the participation percentage increase even more:)

But what is the reason for county boards getting 10% of membership fees?
I know county boards need more money for development etc but is that really the best way of doing it?AAI need all the money they can get!

Also i am unaware that Cork were ever seperate within the AAI,im open to factual correction though!Leinster may not be open to Dublin rejoining and it would probably cause a lot of hassle but stronger competition at provincial level can only be a good thing!

Good point made by you Tingle, simple mathamatics! Is the Dublin development officer aware of these simple statistics, should be no1 priority i would think.
I think i could hazard a good guess to who you are now!:p:D

I think they did when they were really strong years ago, winning a Cork cross-country was like winning an all-ireland.

Are you sure? I was still competing at juvenile level when the AAI was formed and always had a few Cork athletes in my race at all provincial track and field events.

You could be right, it may have been BLOE days or it may just have been a suggestion due to how strong they used to be but never followed through.
