Camera bag or flash?

Have you an external flash as yet? If not i'd think there would be some urgency to getting one to control those situations where you want to bounce the flash or take it off camera and follow the church of strobist ;)

Mind you that bag does look very nice too (in the pictures anyhow) - not sure about its 'shower cap' water protection. i'd like to know what that equates too - eh... i wouldn't trust a hotel shower cap to protect my camera!

I haven't a bag like that one yet - mines more of an over the shoulder hollow 'log' type of yoke which is fine for the moment but i would like to get something like the one you've linked. But i have my external flash already in my gear.

So, it depends on what is driving you - to get out clicking with all your gear with you or to provide better lighting capability. Note - this is a general assessment. I couldn't tell you whether the flash is good, bad, or otherwise value for money.

hope that gets the ball rolling for you.

Don't buy that flash! Save up your money and get a 580EX 11 from ebay for around €300. Or even a 430EX. But DO NOT BUY THAT FLASH. You will regret it if you do. Fitting that to a 5D would be a sacrilege.

Meanwhile, make do with a cheap backpack as a camera bag.

I second Carrigman on his comments regarding flash

Going towards the bag now... :pac: So you really think I should save an extra bit and get the 580?

i agree get the bag, then get a decent flash, either 430 or 580 ex II,you will only realise that the flash you have linked will not work properly for you and end up seling it,to recoup some of the cost of a good flash !

I will mirror what other people have said.

Couple of things to think about though. 2GB isn't enough and you will need more memory especially if shooting in RAW. It's nice getting a bag and all but the camera doesn't have on board flash so lets hope you have something to use where you need a flash until you have the moolah to get the new external one (whatever version you go for). :D

I agree with all that was said .. that flash on a 5D

The 580ex II is the way to go .. I'm not sure what lens you use, but I know that the 24-105mm f4l comes with the 5D sometimes, and the 580exII has the same zoom range, so it would be ideal ...

Also, you can get by without a bag ...

I'd second Mike on the Idea of bigger/more memory ...

best of luck with it whatever you do ... thats a great camera you have there,

    Phil

I have currently canon 15mm Fish, canon 50mm 1.4 and sigma 70 - 300. The thing about it is, I have the money for extras.. Just I want to go back to new york for a week and need the moolah for that so the more camera stuff I get the longer the wait for new york :p

The bag I can get away with I know because I had a 350D for nearly 3 years and not once had I a camera bag for it!

About the flash, I dont really plan on using them for portraits im really just building them up for doing skateboarding shoots and more then likely ill end up buying 3 of them and some pocket wizards to set them up all wireless! Saying that though if the opportunity arose to do some portraits id do it!

    This all adds up :(
