Basically the band that brings the most friends, wins.

Well the bands are given tickets to sell to their fans for 8.50 each, for every ticket sold by the band they are expected to have that many votes on the night but it's not about how many people u can bring - they're just there to get the crowd started, it's about how many people you can win over in the crowd.

e.g. a band sells 40 of their tickets and at the end of the night they have 56 votes, that counts as 16 votes

thats APPARENTLY how it works... but I have my doubts and there's ways round it.

sorry dude, don't be too naive. It's a friends contest pretty much. Our band did it a few years back. You can have some fun doing it but it's a serious money racket and very few people have good things to say about the organisers, including us. The fact that they take a decent sized entry fee as well is particularly annoying. You'll notice they dont do any publicity really and let the bands do the work and beg their friends to come and Emerjenza laugh all the way to the bank.

We were young(er) and naive when we did it and our enthusiasm get the better of us but after it we swore of band contests forever. Enjoy it, if you progress you can play in some decent venues you might not have played before but see it for what it is, Emerjenza could not give a flying f*ck about any of the bands. And if you bring enough friends, it doesnt matter how crap your music is, you go through, that pretty much says it all.

Sorry about the miserable post but after dealing with that lot I was determined to point out what a shower they are whenever I got the chance.

    aw gay...
well we won't rely go far anyway seeing as we're a metal band and when does a metal band win a battle of the bands :P just trying to get people to go really

yeah sorry to be so negative man...most battle of the bands are money rackets unless there's some serious prizes for the winners of serious value to bands like equipment or studio time or hard cash!

As I said, we did Emerjenza and I can understand the allure for bands, the fact that its so big and u get to play somewhere cool if you make the final etc but it is what it is dude...best o luck with it, have a laugh

Yeah we're playing that night. It wasn't my idea to enter it. I thought it was a bit of a money making scheme alright. Don't think we're going to be bringing tonnes of people so don't worry about us, we won't be much competition!

My band did it last year and we didnt get passed the first band but looking back i couldnt give a crap because i didnt really enjoy the whole thing as said above its a money making sceme and no promotion is done. We brought around 12 people with us but since we were on second there was pretty much only our friends there and a few others who were just waiting for there friends band to come on . If you play last you have a better chance of getting through imo since you have loads of time for people to arrive.

Hope it goes well for you and i see there not using the Voddoo lounge this year and are using the Village which is a really nice venue. Good luck anyways

Quite Expensive! Village is a good venue though so for that reason alone its worth it. Saw Von Shakes there recently in King Kong Club, they brought a shed-load of people and won due to the clap-o-meter, and they are the definition of a battle of the bands winning band: brutal songs but plenty of college classmates.

Hope one of you guys beats them!
