I've actually lost setanta in dublin, just the sports channels not setanta ireland.
All the other channels seem ok so far.

I'm getting some breakup on Astra1 (only one I'm using atm), but it's more to do with teh wind blowing my 1.1m dish than rain. I'd more reliable reception when using multi-LNB setup, than I do now with the DiSEqC motor. Motor seems to give more play in wind. :(

mine could be wind to o I guess, the lnb is vibrating a fair bit.
Dissapointed that setanta sports channels are so senstive compared to everything else.

Ive learnt my lesson with dishes and wind so i have my dish as low as possible and sheltered. I also have a little rain guard over the lnb made out of a pop bottle to stop rain getting on LNB which does seem to help. But that rain earlier was manic!

Even Setanta was breaking up on a 1.1m but most on 28east were fine. It does seem setanta is a lot weaker.

I actually found some canal+ on 1 west were the strongest during the bad weather.

I have my sky dish aligned as best as possible and its still breaking up!

Nah, you don't get real rain these days, not like the stuff in the old days.

I was seeing some breakup on weaker hotbird channels on my 110cm. Sky on the 4 x sat feed 90/95cm dish seemed OK.

I lost all channels completely, even Sky via 110cm motorised once in VERY heavy rain for over 10mins.. Serious flooding in 20mins that day.

Was just after realigning my minidish last weekend and replacing the lnb and I was very happy with my strong signal which was perfect all week.
Started to break up during the Arsenal match today but just about held it together.
Was questioning my hard work but obviously the elements were worse than I though .
Setanta are a joke though ,they seriously need to change frequencies.

That rules the motorised option out so ,will get a T90.
My back is like a wind tunnel.

I tend to disagree. If you have you motorised dish as low to the ground as possible you wont beat it for spot on reception.

Multi LNB reception is a grand setup, Until your favourite team is playing and its only available via a feed and you dont have a LNB covering that sat position!

A well installed Motor is more reliable than T90.

A motorised system good for the full approx 22 satellites you can get in Ireland BUT can only feed one receiver.

A T90 or multifeed can use a Multiswitch to feed 2 to 500 receivers, But is only good for a 45 degree arc and poorer on weaker satellites than a Motorised (smaller) 90cm dish.

My 110cm Triax with Motek is about as big as you can go without a 36V Motor and hasn't needed re-alignment since install despite many storms. A 36Motor system with professional dish will survive tile removing wind.

time to buy a 6 metre dish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

About €95,000 to €180,000 for a new 6m, Maybe more. You need azimuth & elevation motors running 24/7 to keep that size dish locked on the satellite. About 0.05 degrees or less error and you lose the satellite. On Multi-satellite "slots" (13E, 19E, 28.2/28.5, 25.6E etc) you can only receive one satellite of the constellation at a time with it.

****. isn't a 6m dish needed to get a signal off some of the low orbit amateur satellites?

i only got a 80cm dish and had no channels working yesterday in the rain.. getting a bigger dish wouldn't really help?:

I lost reception on most satellites during the heavy downpour, was the heaviest rain I remember in a long long time. Using a 1m dish here.

Mine is 4ft from the ground behind a wooden fence. Having said that though, I've little faith in that "metal gear" Alsat motor. Maybe less play in a known motor brand like Moteck.
