I am in a serious pickle here folks.

Some time around the start of October, I rented out a season of a tv series for 1 week (cost = €10) from Xtra Vision. I returned the DVDs two days before they were due back but realised I had left one disc in my DVD player. I took these all back to go home and get the missing DVD but then forgot to return it.

Then I went on holiday for 4 weeks.

Now what should I do? Keep the DVDs forever? Drop them back in the express box? Tell them I lost them?

How much is this fine going to be? Is my life of DVD rental over?!

It'l be on your record If you go back to hire another one out. If you really want to maintain your membership try registering again under another name and address if possible and get a new card. This may be easier if you're a married woman and you could use your maiden name and parent's address. You may need proof of that though. If you're a fella, change your first name slightly if you can and use a mate's address if he doesn't mind.

They'll charge you up to the Retail price of the DVD so don't expect some crazy fine.

Just go back when the manager is there and explain what happen or better ring their customer care line. I've heard of people getting their fines wiped and some vouchers. Its so the person who might not normally have late fines will continue to be a customer rather then never going back due to the fine.

You might have to resort to performing sexual favours. What you did is a serious no-no in the DVD biz.

Just pay the fine. (You deserve it anyway!) Plus, I've paid so many fines to xtravision in the past I could have mounted a takeover of the business so its good for me to see some other sucker doing the same.

I eventually stopped going there it was costing too much in fines - cheaper to just buy the dvd in tescos!

I used to work there so here's the thing to do:

Deny it for long enough and they always write it off.

Drop it in the express box and pay the fine - which have a fixed upper limit now as far as I know so it won't be much at all. Bout ten euro?

Don't return it and say you lost it they'll ask you to pay the retail price.

Or.. put it to the back of your mind and sign up for a new membership, they never even check to see if you aren't registered already.

    Good luck!

Go in with the DVD, slam it on and desk and shout really loudly while there are customers around "How dare you! I did not rent out Big Boobed Babes 3 from the restricted section!"

It's not as bad as you think, XV have lowered the max charge on a DVD to €9 (It used to be€25) Box sets might be a little more expensive but it wont be bad. Ring them up and ask whats owed on the account... Furthermore, the shop should have called you to inform you that the discs were overdue or sent you a reminder card...If it's one of the lazily run shops you have a good case to have the fine struck off or halved at least....

    Bit of insider info :D

Forget about it. Chances are, they never checked the boxes and somebody else has rented it. (And they went in saying "HEY! There's a disc missing!" to which XV say "Nice try buddy, like we haven't heard that one before. Cough up the cash")

Somebody elses problem now my friend!

You're doomed, OP. You'll get at least 20 years in prison if you're not torn apart by an angry mob first. I'd advise you to fake your own death and escape to South America via the Nazi war criminals underground railroad.

Similiar thing happened to me - rented out Tomb Raider for the xbox, came with 2 discs. (1 was a "making of" dvd) A week later, I looked in the case (hadn't played it that much) seen a disc there, returned it, thought nothing more of it. A few days later, opened one of my other game cases and found the tomb raider disc there - "oh christ, what have I given them thinking it was tr"!?
Went back to the shop with the disc, trying to think what I had given them by mistake - they had to go hunting through all the copies and evenually copped on to what had happened.
The guy behind the counter said I should have kept my mouth shut - there was no record of which copy of the game I had recieved!

Reminds me of 'Rat Race' where they insist he has to pay for the porn movie... Still a crap film though.

This happened to me once, i just dropped it back in the express thingy and used someone elses card whenever i needed to rent again so i wouldn't have to pay the fine!

Should have used a friemds card to rent it in the first place, then this would be their problem.

Just forget about it and keep the dvd, I have a library book since I was about ten and would hate to think of the fine I have to pay but they have not come looking for it and I am in no rush to bring it back.

Break into the shop and file the DVDs away. Then go in the next day and try to rent something else. Throw a total strop when they bring it up, saying you distinctly remember dropping it back in. Threaten them with violence and legal action. Take out your mobile and pretend to phone the police. When they eventually look and find the DVD filed away in the right place, tell them you want some vouchers and stuff to make up for the mental anguish they have caused. Spit on the ground on the way out of the shop and give them the finger everytime you pass by from then on.
