I know this has been addressed before but every fix posted here no longer works.

I've recently set up xp on my macbook through bootstrap which is a livesaver for my job but every time i reboot i get that annoying loud chime sound.

Is there any to permanently disable it?

    Thanks.

have the volume turned down completely i.e. muted before you shutdown - when you next boot there should be no chime.

http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/software.en.html will do exactly what you wish for. I usually do the same thing that babypink recommended above, but if you absolutely hate it, you have the choice of disabling it completely.

Thanks but i've already installed that and no joy. Apple seem determined to make the boot up chime mandatory for some odd reason.

It's cross marketing with Pixar, they want you to subliminally think of wall-e and buy wall-e stuff :D
