Using video recorder with Freeview box

I'm wondering if anyone has cracked this one and would appreciate any advice.

We were given a Freeview box by family in London. Hooked it all up and it works great, dozens of channels, fantastic picture. (No RTE of course, but we can get that from the TV anyway if we turn the F box off).

We still use a video to record progs. No problem recording the TV channels we've always recorded - with or without the box on. But I can't work out how to record the extra Freeview channels. The instructions just say to set the programme timer on the F box, then set the video timer as normal. But the video needs a channel set as well as the time, and it doesn't know the Freeview channels. And if I turn the F box to a certain channel and press "Record" on the video, it ignores the F box and records whatever channel the video is set to.

Help! Any ideas please? Thanks a mil.

It needs SCART. Select the video to record via SCART and it records what ever the Freeview box is set to. Read the manual to see how to select the direct video inputs rather than a TV tuner channel built in.

But a Freeview box with built in HDD to record via Program Guide selection is better. Next year you will be able to get a box that does Irish DTT and Freeview and has the Hard Drive Recording.

Thanks Watty. Once I knew that, I found the info I needed in the VCR manual and now I can record from Freeview just fine. I'm sure the new HD box will be easier, but for now we're quite happy. Thanks again.:)
