Thanks for that. The 2nd gen is alot better. built in speaker and a improved battery life. I was thinking getting it in NY this Christmas as my cousin is going there. Surely their 5th ave store would be stocking them now.

It's not that much hassle, I just couldn't do without custom themes at this stage!!!

tbh I could wait out until it could be jailbroken.

Let's be honest - the main reason most people want to jail break their iPhones or iPod Touches is to get the official apps and games for free illegally.

From my meagre knowledge the new iPod Touch hasn't been jailbroken yet but it's really just a matter of time before that seeps out.
Once that happens, it's really a case of the person searching for programs and games where someone else has taken out the copy protection.

If you where that way inclined, of course. ;)

Jailbreaking on 1st gen takes about 10 minutes and 3 clicks, no hassle at all

Jailbreaking is very easy to do the with 1st gen. I don't think there will be a jailbreak for the 2nd gen for a while as I'd reckon they're finding a way to jailbreak the iphone 3G first.

iPhone 3G can be jailbroken already....they're currently working on a hardware jailbreak for 2nd Gen Touch which involves messing with the hardware but they hope to have a software jailbreak soon enough.

Folks couple of points to note if you are thinking of buying the ITOUCH 2nd Gen....I upgraded from a Nano and NONE of my accessories are compatible.

    This includes:
    Car charger - not recognised
Docking station - will not charge

The 2nd Gen is a fantastic device though and I do recommend it, but just exercise caveat emptor prior to purchase of accesories for now! It will change in time.

Well, that's not just an iPod Touch 2nd Gen issue (although I do understand some acessories don't work between even 1st and 2nd Gen iPod Touches) as it's more to do with the iPhone and iPod Touch being completely new hardware chipsets - almost all iPod Classic series and Nano series iPods are based on essentially the same inards.

Yep I bought one in the 5th ave store back in Sept. Generally when they announce new products their available in that store that night.

Ah It's all good now. They're selling the 2nd gen in 3G and in Argos for €279 for the 16gb. Also Argos are selling the 1st gen 16gb ipod touch for €210 on special offer.

It'll charge fine, all Apple portable devices work worldwide so there'll be no problem
