I ordered beer from a Germany online store and its gona be delivered by UPS.
Whats the story with duty charges or are there any?!!

I know that you can personally bring in up to 110 liters of beer into Ireland from any EU country and its ok once its for personal use but I'm not sure what the story is for ordering online.

Can anyone tell me if I'll have to pay duty on it or what the story is with ordering alcohol online?

There should be no duty, as it's sourced within the EU. However, if customs believe you are reselling the beer, then they can seize it.

hmm, if you were genuinely buying lets say 100 litres for your own home, and customs seize it thinking its for resale, is there anything you could do to challenge there decision?

Thats what I thought until I read this... Linky
Excise products sold via the Internet and supplied from one Member State to a customer in another Member State are subject to excise duties in the Member State where the purchaser receives his goods. So, before the excise product can be legally delivered to the purchaser, the excise duties and taxes will have to be paid.

Awh, that's a shame. Was gonna ask what site you ordered from, hardly much point now (unless even with excise paid, it still works out a good price compared to locally).

Well, I've ordered beer from Germany before and there was no mention of Duty when it arrived!!!
Ordered 4 x 5L beer kegs (I have a mini beer tap!!) and they were delivered with no problems.

This time I ordered bottles and from a different site.
My main reason for ordering online is I'm not into the crap beer widely available here. The quality and range of beer in Germany is far superior.
I ordered a mix of beers and it came to 65 euro for 27 x 500ml bottles delivered.
Not to bad really at all IMO.

The site is Beershop Bayern. Link ere

BTW I'm not trying to dodge payin duty or anything, just curious as to what the law is on this! Its fairly hard to find info on it!!

Also on that point my understanding from the rest of the text is that you have to pay the Irish VAT to the seller not to customs or courries company like when buying from US.
Note that in the case of distance selling, the obligation to pay excise duties in the Member State of the purchaser rests upon the vendor.

Dont think theres an English section to that website, If you use firefox theres a handy website translator that translates the entire page to english. Here

Hard to know what to recommend, depends on what your into, they have a great selection!!!

I contacted them and asked them if theyed do me a mix of Schwarzbiers, Rauchbiers and Upper Fransconia beers. The guy was really helpful and did me a great mix of what I liked.

Depending on what your into, browse the site, see if you see anything that you like the look of, if not contact them and tell em what you'd like, there really helpful.

I ordered a few time from El Corte Ingles used to place the order over the web and they sent me the postage costs. But looks like they change the website and cannot order like that any longer as looks like you need to order via the supermarket with a Spanish postal code.

Also ordered from La botiga del vi they were ok. The transport prices are here we are in zone 5.

Hard to know what to recommend. Depends what your into.
You could try some of there mixes or ask them to do you a mix.

So far I've only tried 3 of the 27 bottles they sent me (trying desperately not to touch them til Christmas!!!:p)

    All 3 were gorgeous.

Pyraser Schwarzbier Really nice schwarzbier. Delicious. Will definately be ordering again.

Schlenkerla Rauchbier (Cant find it on the bayern shop site but was in the mix they made up for me) Prob the most famous smoke beer, I've tasted it before. Strong smoked aroma, like a glass of smoked ham!! Delicious and worth a try.

Veldensteiner Raucherl (Cant find on the site either!!) Really nice smoke beer. Medium bodied, quite malty and sweet like caramel. Slight hint of smoke in the taste, but not much. Another lovely beer

Ask them to do you a mix of what your into. There fairly helpful like that. I'm really happy with the mix they did for me!!

Would be nice to have something different over the holidays ,good way to start a conversation;)

    Cheers.
