nope - you can tune the stations you have listed in, but they will be in Services - Other Channels. You can't record from there, and no live pause while watching either.

is there any way to link in another sky box which has this channel so that it can be recorded, iknow answe is probably no.

but id love a system where u could link in other sources for recording onto the hard disk.

i wonder is this possible with the freesat uk box......

Buy a http://www.freesat.co.uk/ and problem solved. This is your best bet if like my house itv 3 or the above mentioned are recorded off of daily.

Better to wait for the freesat pvr that is due before Christmas.

What's a pvr, please? Why is it better?

Personal Video Recorder. Sky+ is a pvr but Sky have decided to limit its functionality to channels on the Sky epg.

is it possible to change to a NI Sky subscription? id imagine they have the best mix of channels. eg. all the irish and the uk channels...

ive also noticed that bbc news seems to be missing aswell.

    im really dissapointed by this.

does anyone know when the irish channels are due to go digital, i know they are testing at the moment...

im just wondering what will be the best set up when they do go digital, eg to have the uk freesat pvr and then a seperate irish channels digital box with hopefully a pvr also...

Getting a NI sub is going to cost you because I think they have to pay extra to receive our channels. In my opinion we have it better than them as we get all their stations be it in "other channels" or freesat and our own but as I said in the North they have to pay extra for RTE, TV3 etc.

i took a look at the freeview website and they say the freesat+ may work with an existing sky dish, they state may, they don't promise.

does anybody know...or could put forward an educated guess....if the freesat+ would work with an existing chorus dish?

i'm currently with chorus (MMDS) and am thinking of switching to sky (get a sky+ box). but i would consider waiting until the freesat+ was released, if it worked with a chorus dish.

i presume with the freesat+ box that one can tune in additional channels e.g. rte, tv3 etc etc.

    thanks.

if your dish was for sky, it will work! They are covering themselves against someone claiming it won't work because wind has deflected it off slightly!
You need a satellite dish, not a chorus aerial

What you have is an MMDS aerial, not a satellite dish, so unfortunately will not work with freesat or any other FTA receiver:(
If you switch to SKY+, they will install a dish and you could use that for freesat if you decided later to cease your SKY contract.

UPC's DVR has all those channels, so you can record them. Handy for family Guy & Champions league.

Aren't Sky missing a trick here by not providing the UK FTA channels on the Irish Sky guide? Surely if there's a steady stream of customers abandoning Sky for Freesat they would...

variety of different reasons they're not there - with the BBC channels, Sky wants the BBC to pay for EPG placement, which is obviously not within the BBCs remit to do. Adding UTV to the EPG would cause problems with TV3 who carry much of the same content. I'm sure UTV would love to be on the southern EPG...

I'd say if Sky start to lose a lot of customers to Freesat, they may add the BBC channels - the key channel though is UTV as it's one of the traditional 6 channels that cable\deflector systems in Ireland have always carried.

a bit off topic I know but anyone ever here anything about the tv3 london high court case where they were suing itv for going FTA or was that only a rumored case?

With a freesat or freesat+ box the Irish channels are not available and cannot be tuned in, they are only available via a Sky sub on satellite.

Hi I just got a sky + put in to replace the old standard one, I was trying to record from the BBC3 and ITV on OTHER CHANNELS menu last night but no joy just like this thread suggests, but, this morning when I was looking on the SKYIRELAND site on the TV listings bit, I see that if you click on any of the programs on these other channels it gives you the option to REMOTE RECORD, now I haven't tried it cause i don't have my pin and stuff handy but has anyone tried it ? does it work if you do it that way ?

When you link your Sky account to your web site login those channels are removed from the online guide. Tried it a few months back and thats what happened. Good idea though.
