Hi , i have been thinking long and hard about getting a Mogwai but have heard many horror stories about them. Are there any owner's here or anybody can lay my fears to rest ?

I hear that some of them can be very mischiefus ?
Is it true they suffer from severe mood swings when fed late .
I also hear that water can effect their reproductive cycle ?

Any tips would be great .

Great pets but do watch out for the feeding thing.
Not after midnight (pay particular attention around daylight saving time)

Visit the breeders home on several occasions before purchasing. Note the mogwais mood and temperment, alone and with others. If you get more than one, make sure they get on well,an alpha will bully the runt. Good luck :)

Keep an eye on them around kitchen equipment. I heard of one that had a mishap with a blender.

Make sure you have a sturdy carrier when you do collect your new pet as I hear they don't travel well.

Usually when a Mogwai is in rescue it is because it has reached its "temperamental" stage. Ye know, killing neighbours, watching dodgy copies of Snow White while swigging on a whiskey and smoking a cigar.

I would recommend contacting the breeders club to get some contacts of breeders. Most of them are situated around Parnell street, have long gray beards and smoke pipes.

Word of warning though, if you see a mogwai that starts whistleing insanely cute tunes when you get near, steer clear.

mogwai are wild creatures and generally speaking dont make good pets. a firm handler is required.

You have to remember that they suffer from terrible migraine though- and should be kept out of daylight when possible. Also- they are solitary creatures, and best kept as single specimens. When in groups they tend to bully the weaker members. Highly trainable, but very open to bad influences.

Plus I saw a deal recently where if you rescue a mogwai, you get a free Corey Feldman. So you would actually be rescuing two small creatures with limited dialects and illusions of being movie stars.

You are all ignorant. Mogwai's make lovely lovely pets and it is all the owners fault if they go bad. I have taken in many many Mogwai's which I rescued from bad situations and have successfully trained and re-socialised them, I finally rehomed them to upstanding members of the community (preferably those I do not like).

So if you hear of any mysterious disappearances shortly, pay no heed, it's all just a media hype.

I am off now to hug another tree or maybe chase a bunny or two...

    lmao

Ah he was good at the time bless him.

They do like a bit of music, have been known to play the keyboard. Get on ok with dogs too. They don't like needles. Like to dance and drive little cars.

Ahhhh I loves the Gremlins one of the best films ever made

Am I right in thinking you'd need a vet who specialised in exotics?

Not really no, if you ran into any problems just contact your local old chinese man. He'll be able to sort out any issues.

Maybe I should offer Obama one of my last Mogwai's. Does anyone know if they are hypo-allergenic?

Nah they're not... that's ferrets you're thinking of. Mogwai's have more dander in thier coats than cats do so they can give trouble to people with allergies.
