depends what top brand your looking at really.

The dboys m4 are reliable and will get the job done, and the metal body on them is nice, and with the CQB sd/r you have endless amount of attachments you can slap on.

If you can stretch a budget, youll notice a difference in a high end aeg.

But if you dont feel comfortable splashing the cash, a dboys would be a good choice of m4.

If you wanna keep it under 200, theres CA sportslines and G&G plasticas. I'm not going to divulge myself in identifying which is better ( its obvious) but just incase a mod might be concerned over the fact i will be biased as regards to my employment.

But sure a little scan of the ent will tell you all you need to know, and im sure other people here will give you some info.

    G&G cough cough

What he is saying is, sportslines are sh1t. From reports, plasticas are very good. I never thought much of dboys, all the ones i had fell apart in my hands, ended up being replaced.
I have a JG never had any trouble with it and it is a top preformer.

what do you want from it
does it have to be an m4

Ddoys are solid as a rock, they lack a little in build quality but that's easily remedied. they excel in reliability though. they use the same XYT gears that JG use and they have a very good reputation for being sturdy. there's a few upgrades you could do to improve the gun for a beter performance but as it is, she's a nice piece.

As doc mentioned though, there's the G&G plastica series. that's basically a G&G high end gearbox fitted in a plastic receiver and for clone type of money.
Id personally pick that over a Dboys.

If you wanted to spend a bit more money you could go with one of the G&G Armalite Range, theres loads of them to choose from and the quality is second to none. i have 3 of them myself.

Serious ask anyone they will tell you all about the G&G's...the plastica series just has a plastic body but still the awesome internal parts:D

whereas regular G&G models are metal

I have the G&G plastica myself and believe me that gun outperforms every other M4 that I've seen so far. It chrono's at 325 fps and it's not cheap plastic. I had a dboys M16 before which I sold off and got the G&G.

Your only going to know the difference if you own both. With anything, starting out I always go cheap and work my way up. As far as I can see the difference between cheap and expensive is the quality of engineering. The end results may be more or less the same though.

Point being, don't buy expensive unless you can appreciate the difference.

I'd strongly disagree with that, but that's just my opinion. G&P's externals are some of the best in the business.

I am an intermals man so theres the disagreement:D

G&P externals are really nice, like most high ends guns really, I wouldn't call them any better than G&G though, other than the fact that G&G don't have the trade marks on the guns. G&G far out do the G&P on internal quality though, and for me that would matter a lot more than the trade marks. one of the things i don't like about G&P is the fact that their gears are thicker than most other brands and this means when one gear gets damaged, its not as simple as just replacing that gear like with most other brands, instead you have to change the set. thats not to say that G&P aren't good quality, but i have fixed a fair few more of them than i have G&G, in fact, i think Ive only ever had to fix 2-3 G&G rifles.,
