Bullies brains may be hardwired to have sadistic tendencies, US imaging research suggests.
An area of the brain associated with reward lit up in scans when aggressive boys watched a video of someone inflicting pain.
Boys without a history of unusual aggression had no such response, the study in Biological Psychology found.
The aggressive teenagers also reacted more strongly to pain that was accidentally caused. The small study of 16-18 year olds - eight with a "conduct disorder" and eight with no aggressive tendency - suggests in some boys, natural empathetic impulses may be disrupted in ways that increase aggression, the researchers said.

Not exactly earthshattering news, but do you think it confirms your suspicions, I for one do! :(

All that proves is that bullys enjoy watching other people get hurt, which everyone knew already.

This is pure sensationalism, there's nothing here to point that bullying is wired into the brain. People can chose what they like/dislike, their brain activity merely reflects this choice.

Very true, but still something triggers that "wiring" in the first place.

    No.

you cannot just choose what you like.. sexual preference being the main one.

i wish i could choose to like healthy food.. or dirt cheap food. but i cant change what i like and neither can you.

didn't you read my post. It's nothing about wiring at all. Their brains are probably no different than anyone else's. If your reward system lights up, all it means is you enjoy something and obviously bullies enjoy watching people get hurt.

Why do they enjoy watching people get hurt?

It's probably down to psychological factors.

There's nothing in this research to suggest it's anything to do with the wiring of the brain.

I didn't mean it that way. sorry for wording it all wrong. I meant in moral issues. e.g you may chose to not enjoy a film because you disagree with it morally. You can allow yourself to enjoy certain things that most normal people would suppress and also you can make yourself enjoy things you didn't previously like e.g the taste of beer.

More what i meant was that in most people instinct would tell them not to enjoy these things because it's antisocial. However they've managed to override their instinct (which is easy to do) allowing the much more primitive enjoyment of such things.

i dunno... i'm kinda believin the whole "built-in" thing.

kinda like shite lads who bully girlfriends.. there's no peer pressure or any reason to do it except if its built in?

edit: or if the girlfriend doesn't put out some night.

Im not saying it's definintely not, I'm just saying there's nothing in this article to suggest it.

I'd be more inclined to say it's simply down to a fucked up world view.

Wasn't it proven recently that a person's sexuality can be determined by using a weight ratio of the two hemispheres of the brain, therefore it has bee decided before birth.

    Maybe bully's are the same.
