I went up to the show yesterday for the last day. I was expecting loads of empty stalls and a very quiet RDS but I was plesantly surprised. It had to be one of the best ones I was at. I generally only go every second year and am bored after about an hour and a half but this year I brought home more brochures than ever before. There were 2 stands that really interrested me and I just wanted some feedback.

There was a silica based additive for concrete to make it waterproof in basements etc. that could also be used to plug leaks in black tanked walls. Has anybody ever used it before or have any experience with it?

Bio-ethanol stoves, gives out the same amount of CO2 as a candle but gave out great heat, didnt need a flue so was portable aswell.

There is one of these in a hotel in Portlaoise - in the main bar. It gave out fantastic heat 360 degrees and I was puzzled as to the lack of chimney. My only worry would be the supplier of the Bio-ethanol.

didnt make it yesterday as i was in athlone....

but collegue went on wednesday and was disappointed. Very small crowd and much similar to the 'sustainable building exibition' during the year.

the bio-ethanol stoves dont need chimneys as they dont product co2 or dirty smoke... AFAIK... thus is 100% efficient...

i agree that saturday (or even friday) was a better arrangement

I think some energy is lost to light, and a small amount in vapour.
But, I think they are in the very high 90s. Certainly one to look at.

I thought the show was poor. I was at the sustainable build show this year and thought there was a more stands and newer products.

I attended wednesday and as a self builder i found it to be way ahead of any other shows exhibitions i have attended . I was able to speak with suppliers ,manufacturers of a great deal of the technologys that are being incorporated in my build.I came away confident of the correct installation methods to achive my targets and would reccommend anyone considering going the selfbuild route to attend futher shows .
