Know where I might find old-fashioned webbing?

    You know the stuff.

Plain olive green, impractical, uncomfortable, has a weird smell. I can find newer load-bearing systems all over the place, but I want that vintage charm, and I can't find it anywhere that imports to Ireland.

Anybody seen anywhere selling the stuff to Ireland, for a decent price?

Best to try ebay, or you could try Soldier of Fortune who do rather good vintage replica kit without the crazy prices you'll need to pay on ebay.

I'll also add that finding vintage kit in good and/or complete condition can be a trial in patience on the likes of ebay, if you choose to go down that route. For example, the long H harness (US vietnam issue) is difficult to find as opposed to the short or regular kind, etc. etc. etc.

I've foudn generally, old type webbing uniforms to be an absolute ripoff, in any ebay store or online store, like SOF.

I was trying hard to get a german WW2 uniform for a loadout, buts its ridic prices for clothing that is generally worn and bashed...

    It's not a rip-off when you consider that it's
    • Very niche-market.
    • Economies of scale don't exist the way they do for viper, ebaybanned, etc. kit
    • It's usually older, so stuff in good condition is more difficult to find. Doubly so for stuff that perhaps actually saw service
    • The further back you go, the more vintage it gets. WW2 kit is antique at this point for christ sake. Of course it's going to be expensive. They don't make it any more ...

Don't compare apples and oranges. If you want a modern look, well then go modern. If you want a specific historical era look, then go for it. Each has its pros and cons. Historical kit tends to cost more for reasons above and that shouldn't need to be pointed out they are that obvious.

58 pattern webbing might fit your needs.
If so then you can find it easily and cheaply on eBay here
It was used by the Irish army for a long time so you might be able to find an irish seller selling it.

It weighs a ton when wet and goes stiff as a board when it dries out. Horrible stuff.

Yes, but if you can get yourself some, you have the basics for a lot of loadouts. I was gifted a set and am currently waiting on a poncho roll and other bits and pieces. I will do for a Vietnam themed event. Ye cant really do that with a Viper vest.

See, that's the thing though, I wore the stuff when I was in the FCA - we were training with Brens, you know, for the next time WWII happens - so I'm fully aware of how immensely uncomfortable it is, but it baffles me what actually happened all the stuff. Like chalky pointed out, a lot of this stuff was in circulation here until recently.

Same with the old OD uniforms, I was looking for OD stuff a while ago and it would have been perfect, but I didn't see any of the old Irish stuff anywhere. Is it just rotting away in stores, or what...? People's wardrobes?

For my needs, all I really need is the yoke, belt and one or two ammo pouches.

Lemming and Chalky, thanks a million.

lemming if im to pay over 200 euro for clothing, id expect it not to be in shreds.

At salute, one vendor said he regularly beats soldier of fortune prices, but he wanted 270 for a panzer officer uniform...thats looks like wind would untwine it.

Antique as it is, still shocking prices..and id still be suspect of authenticity...

And if I was going to use anything for airsoft I'd expect it not to be in shreds. So wouldn't buy it if it wasn't up to the task.

I'm not saying that you should go out and buy buy buy willy-nilly no questions asked. I'm saying that making the argument that a €100 viper vest (to use a made up example, I have no idea if there is a viper vest for €100) is better than a €150 ww2 webbing kit because it's cheaper is not an honest argument to make.

It is not a rip-off because it's dearer. It'd be a rip off if it wasn't up to task. Hence I mentioned SOF because they do replica stuff which isn't as expensive as the real-deal.

Eh .. a full ww2 original officers uniform I would expect to cost a fortune. I would also imagine that most of the salute people are selling stuff of that nature to collectors, not skirmishers. SOF sell stuff to re-enactors and the like, so kit would be getting used.

Apples. Oranges. They're not the same thing ...

how about a bog standard plce rig?
    http://www.endicotts.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1038
it is what i use. if getting this type of kit, ask for the side pouch yoke
instead of the main yoke. this will also allow you to attach 1 or 2 plce side pouches, turning it into a little back pack if need be. (it has a few extra buckle clips than the main yoke.)
i have a side pouch holding my water bladder, and i have a modification which allows me to have two mag pouches just under my right armpit (i am a lefty) slung in a downward and inward facing direction, allowing me to remove mags in a more erganomic way than lifting them up out of a pocket.
a cheap and cheerful plce rig will give lots of options, but if you can drive the ol needle and thread you can really customise your kit to be "just right"
    hope this helps.

I'd be much obliged if you could ask him, yeah. I need a belt, yoke, and ammo pouches, but if he was looking for a reasonable price for a full set, that'd be cool. I'd be grateful if you could ask alright, thanks.
