    Yo,
I'm a big lad, with long legs, and I plan to look around for a car over the weekend. Looking for garages in and around Dublin (that I can get to by bus), that would have a good selection of cars, and be open on Saturday.

Long legs = no garages that only stock tiny cars. Saying that, any that stock a few Polo's, I wouldn't mind going to, as some Polo's are meant to be surprisingly roomy!

the_syco, I would recommend Dublin Motors on the naas road, about 2 mins walk from Kylemore luas. I've bought 2 cars for myself and one from the girlfriend out there and the owner Greg is a decent guy, He advertised a car as havign remote central locking when it didnt. He got this put in for me as he had advertised it as such.

Bill Griffin around the corner -> stay well clear IMHO

    Mate of mine: http://www.carterquigleycarsales.ie/index.php

Stocks all sorts in all different price ranges. He'll look after you :)

Pretty sure they're open on Saturday, but maybe give them a ring to be sure

John Hayes cars in rathmines is where i bough my car, very nice man and has a good selection,he's not a huge dealer but he's been there for a very long time which says alot, unlike other places.

My mate who worked for annessley motors recommended him and warned me to stay away from anyone selling cars around ballymount area.

I'll have to give my brother a plug.

He's only out on his own a few months but in the business a long time. Stocks a fair variety of cars and if there's anything in particular you're after, he's usually good at sourcing it.

Thats an odd way of choosing a second hand car. Dealers have cars of all sizes and if you are driving then the vast majority of cars should give you enough leg room unless you are freakishly tall.

As is said here before, pick a few cars you like then scour carzone for good examples of garages near you that stock them. Then away you go.

Well the advice i got was about 4 years ago,but he was saying they're just dodgy characters and known for clocking vehicles. That sort of thing.

Most dealers stock small cars. Anything near the size I want is usually over the ten grand mark. And yes, I is tall.

Also, dunno which ones I fit into. I goto a garage, fit into a few, and then maybe goto a dealer then to see if they have the one I fits into.

I can understand being tall in the back seat but front seats are designed for drivers up to 7 foot tall in most cars. I've got near a foot of extra leg room in my car if I want it and I'm 6'1''. Is it head height or leg room thats the problem?

It's the car you should be looking for, not the dealer.

    What's your budget?
    What can you insure?
What do you need the car for?

The roomiest car I have been in lately is a Skoda Superb. Mate of mine is 6"11' amd he has driven all manner of cars comfortably.

If I put the seat all the way back, I fit ok in a Ford Mondeo.

    Main problems are:
    • Can't fit the knee past the steering wheel, even with seat all the way back, and the steering wheel all the way up.
    • If I get me knees in, my knees usually are against either side of the steering wheel (uncomfortable).
    • A lot of cars, my head is either firmly planted on the roof, or I have to tilt my head at an angle to fit into the car.

6"7' myself. Budget is €3000 to €4000, I'm 27, so I've gotten quotes on anything up to 1.8L, but the insurance cost are usually around the €1,300/500/600 mark.

I need the car primarily for passing the driving test (get used to driving it, and then do the test), and then I'll be using to get to work (5 minutes drive up the road), and also the odd trip to Galway & Kerry.

Will be looking at garages/dealers, as opposed to private, as if it breaks down a mile down the road after buying from a private seller, I've no come back.

So what did you get in the end. Just starting to look at cars now. Spent this evening with car salesman telling me how freekishly long my husbands legs are and seeing that he had NO cars in his dealership that fitted!! It is so frustrating. So what did you find worked????

So far Renault scenic, Hyundai something, Ford Focus, Peugot 405 all don't work.

    aaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

JOC Carsales(you ll see him in carzone) in Glanshevin 8 Dublin 9, he is awfull sound, and hes got few cars around ur budget i think. Im a tall person as well and i just bought mint 00 Merc E200 Kompressor for 4.8k of him:eek: with fmbsh with 85000 miles on it, he also has e200 standard with same spec as mine but non kompressor and same price, i dunno if e200 wouldnt be too big for a starter car, but its awfull spacious inside, and they are decent on insurance aswell

    hope this helps
