RYANAIR credit card charges

Ive just book flights on ryanair for my friend and I. All was wll until I clicked payment method *mastercard* when the total price went up by €20????

Surely this is way too much for a credit card charge? Its €10 PER PERSON which cant be right as the two names were booked on one credit card so therefore only ONE payment to process. I dont understand how they are getting away with charging this amount.

Does anyone know who I contact to investigate this further??

    Thank you

Dont think you can do anything about it, they set the price, you are willing to pay it ,end of discussion
I know its a bit steep the price but i wish you luck getting money back out of Ryanair.

I don't think they put charges on debit cards. I think the AIB ATM card is debit.

All sellers seem to hate credit cards these days.

That happened me too, I couldn't figure out why they had charged extra money and they don't even have it in the list of what they're going to charge you. It's probably in the terms and conditions in small nice print.

As far as I know they're bringing in some new legislation starting January where airlines have to quote you an end price instead of saying that the price is like 50 cents and then it actually costs 150.00. I think this will be good :-)

You can contact ryanair but it wont do you any good, they can charge what they like and being honest its clearly stated when you go down the cc route.

is it steep? yes is it a bit of the smart side ? yes but at the end of the day their prices are still cheaper then most.

I think the charges are free if you have and pay with a Ryanair Visa?

I would get one if this is true does anyone know for sure?

Untrue. Try booking something yourself, click "Ryanair Visa" and watch the price rise :)
Only way out of it is to get the Visa Electron card, which I think is impossible to get in Ireland. It's like an instant debit card which transfers the cash immediately to Ryanair. The Ryanair Visa is good for free flights, although free meaning the flights price is paid, not all the extra charges. Which is of course the bulk of the overall fare!
So I'm afraid they've got us screwed every which way! And I do fly Ryanair - booked 5 flights in the last week or two in fact :D

I've just booked a return flight to the UK for a total of €12 including CC charge.

€2 for the flights and €10 for paying by Visa. Do I feel ripped off? No bloody way. I got a return flight for €12!

Would the OP feel better if the credit card charge was €0.01 but flight was €9.99 more expensive?

Yea I remember paying to fly to london in the 80s, Aer Lingus charged me £186 return (cash)

Just booked a flight to manchester 30 euro return including CC charge
the taxi ride to the airport will be more expensive.

if you're flying to london, you can fly with bmi for about €60 all in nowadays, with baggage included

You book with the other airline that charges less for the flights... oh wait , ryainair charges less than the other airlines.... well that's a strange a rip-off isn't it...

Next time you're in the UK or up north, get a Royal mail 'holiday money' visa card.

It's an electron card and you can load money on to it in the (royal mail) post office or online.

There is a charge for topping up but its still cheaper than the 10 euro fee on a ryanair flight using mastercard/visa.

I think Halifax do the VIsa debit card.

I think Halifax do the VIsa debit card.

Visa debit is not the same thing as Visa Electron (which is also a debit card...confusing!). Ryanair charge 0.00 fees for flights booked with electron, but I think 4 or 5 euro for visa debit transactions.

Weirdly, my 'free' flight just cost me €32. It said it was charging me €22 for using the credit card, then mysteriously added another tenner.

It's still ridiculously cheap, but I won't be doing what I did last time, when I got a run of four or five months of once-a-month flights for €8 each. Bit of a difference between a 'free' flight for €8 and one for €32.

That tenner is the new govt. tax for flying out of Ireland. On top of airport taxes. :(

Hmmm, I'm not sure that's it, is it? I didn't think that charge was coming in until March or so '09?

pretty sure that charge came in straight away... everything that costs us more usually does!!! (yet the stuff that allows us to save/increased wages etc probably wont come in till mar 09)

Has anyone been hit with the 'accent' tax yet?
Most ludicrous thing Ryanair have done - install machines in Stansted to check in automatically and for free. One minor snag - they don't read letters with accents - cue an hour-long line of François and Jürgens coughing up tenners for the privilege of a desk check in.

If your travel dates are flexible ryanair can be extremely cheap to fly with. It is annoying when they say free flights and it ends up costing you €80 just cos you wanted to carry a clean pair of boxers with you. Still though all in all thank god for ryanair they've made the market really competitive and enable us to travel incredibly cheaply

My free flight cost me around 30 euro too. When I clicked to choose mastercard the price changed but it was off my screen and I only saw it after I had paid.

Also, online check-in is free but when I clicked it, it said 20 euro so I picked airport check-in for a tenner. Only when I redid it to see where the master card charge came from did I see that it was free. I have no idea what happened there. Definitely not user friendly!

ahhh trustworthy modern technology..... anyone with a name as gaeilge would know that the only way to avoid hassle (and said 'accent' tax) is to leave out fatha's accents etc.... mind you it can be fun seeing how different systems read and interperet them :)

The fares Ryanair publish have no meaning in real life at all .....

    My example:-

Flight to Kerry, 40 quid return including ' taxes and charges '..... seems like a bargin yes ?

    Nooooo wait,

You are travelling down for Christmas , so you have quite a lot of stuff , you want to take a bag, ohhhh of course you can , thats 30 euro please .

You want to pay with a card that is actually easily available to you in Ireland... oh of course you can thats another 20 euro please ( 10 each way )

That makes 90 euro , suddenly Irish Rail seems inviting.

And this on a route they get help from the government on !

The 20 euro charge ( 10 euro per sector ) is a PURE rip off , the bank charges are a fraction of this cost. I know other airlines have followed suit and I think they are ripping you off also .

So my advise , ignore the ' headline fares ' they mean nothing at all.

I travel frequently for business ( 2-3 times a month ) NEVER , and I mean NEVER have Ryanair been cheaper , they are usually a stupid price like 250 euro each way to Luton or something like that !
