Wedding album DIY

    Hi..

my wife and I got married abroad and we got the digital wedding pictures on a dvd as well as some prints.
We thought we would get an album over here as we didn't think it practical to get one sent all that way.
After leaving it on the long finger for a while we figured we better get it done.. but I am trying to figure out what is the best way of doing it.

I guess I could just had the dvd to a photographer and ask him/her to create an album for us but I think it would be a nice project to design one myself.
I know the sizes I want, would it be an option to get an album made up and get the prints developed myself?.. if this is an option, does anyone know of a photo album maker that can help me custom an album?

Thanks for any help with this..

Hi there OP .You could also take you pics to a shop like Max Spielmans and they may put them onto dvd for you .

Or have you thought of doing it yourself ? Like you could scan the orginal photos onto pc then upload them onto Windows Movie maker to make own dvd, with Windows audio to add music of your choice . Then rip onto a cd/dvd using NERO .

    here's a thread that might be useful;

are your dvd pictures in JPG format or are they the kind that run as a slideshow movie on your dvd player? If you have the source JPG images then you have something to work with.

You could go for a coffee table book style photo book - services like blurb.com are great to use and produce good results (where you can also the boards.ie photo year book ;) ) - Gingerpixel has one on display over here

If planning to scan prints from the original photographer make sure to obey any copyright that may be in place - this should all be covered by your original contract with your photographer.

Good luck with it - hope it works out well for you.

is the dvd playable in a dvd player?

or is it a slideshow that plays on the computer?

if it is either of these the images are actually low res, ie not enough to print decent sized pictures from.

the other thing to be aware of is iassume you have the permission of the photographer to do this?

i would loook at something like blurb if you want a kind of nice simple format.

    Are the images at 300dpi??

Sorry.. should have been clearer.. the DVD has all the original pictures in high resolution jpeg, (fwiw shot with a Canon EOS 20D). Not sure of the dpi.. some of the images are over 3000 pixels (H). I don't have a slide show or anything like that.. the images are quite big and there are alot of them, hence I guess the need for a DVD.

I'm not sure about copyright infringment.. I don't have a contact as this photographer was hired through a wedding planner.. I guess I could contact her and see if I can get some sort of approval, but I'm pretty sure this is comm0on practice to send the images so that you can get an album created yourself.

I've used www.shutterfly.com to make lots of photo books including 3 wedding albums. It's lots of work but so worth it. Actually I suppose it's only lots of work to choose and maybe edit the photos, choosing the format and order of the photos doesn't have to take too long -I'm just very fussy. It's easy to do.

I have no association to the company I'm just a customer for years and often seem to recommend them.
