Our newest van at work is an '06 transit that we bought about 2 months ago. It failed to start after work for Jarek about two weeks ago and it subsequently turns out that a timing chain idler collapsed.

It jumped the timing chain and made siht if the head. It had it's head replaced under warranty and the bill came to €2,500!! It appears to be running fine now but it seems to be slower.

Is it the case that in some way it will need to be run in again? Is it likely to pick up power??

It's not unknown for mechanics to get the valve timing a little out after head work. If that's what happened then it won't fix itself.
