If you use mids, get one.

I badly need one, its a pain to fit a mag back into an elasticated pouch one handed while reloading, infact its impossible.

    Get a dump pouch.

If you use mids its a must... otherwise you'll end up losing mags

I use mids and los but I've never used dump pouches. I'll admit they are seriously handy, but I don't like a bag flapping around from my hip or thigh, nor do I like having the mags rattling against one another. I've gotten on fine without, it just takes a bit more getting used to.

Dump pouches can be very handy if you do change mags during a game, but like everything else if your pouches aren't too tight then you could get away without one.
I use them myself and find it very handy, but the elastic on my mag pouches make it a right pain if you're in a rush to put the mag back in.

The irony here is I never had this problem with my cheapo vest off rsov, it is my newest splav m23 pioneer vest that has the elasticated pouches, which annoyingly isnt a feature on the last generation of them, only mine.

It makes putting a mag back in impossible.

I'm very close to cutting off the elasticated straps.

I just use a Duty Belt with Pistol mag pouches, a Serpa, Radio, and two dump pouches. One for full mags, one for empty. No need for a vest.

heres a good little trick if you dont have dump pouches and you want to get rid of the empty mag quick without dropping it, if youre shirt is tucked in, and you have a belt on nice and tight, just drop the mag down youre top, and in a few mins when you have the chance, take it out and place back into the pouch...but remember, only use this in emergencys, thats what i do:D

Dump pouches are handy and not just for mags if you need to take off your gloves, googles, boonie you can stash em temporarily in the dump pouch. Saves leaving them somewhere and forgetting them.

LOL great variation of a tryed and tested system. Nice one G3 Nut. I use Brit DPM and replaced the bottom tie on my smock with para cord. Works a treat and little chance of you losing your mags or worse, losing your dump pouch! (must try one) and its quicker I think.

I use the left side cargo pocket of my trousers. They have elastic and it works very well.

Those pockets should normally be empty, or at least contain nothing which will restrict your movement or make noise, but they're fine for temporary use until you reload the mag and put it back in its pouch. The right side pocket is great for soft stuff like gloves or hats.

I have the following (in diff colours). Both are cheap but of good construction and i've found them very handy esp the small one for pistol mags. though a few rifle mags will fit into also.

Great for quick changes if you don't have time to put a mag back into a tight pouch and you'd prefer not to drop it in the sh1t.

    its personal choice.

When it comes to loadout setup, i dont think you can really take advice from anyone, cause everyone is different.

I use midcaps, and i swop them in my mag pouches, and im pretty use to just using one hand to take one you load and put the other back in, easy enough.

And i pretty much always know what mags are empty etc, cause i move left to right across my mag puches, and empty ones sit normal, loaded ones go upside down.

pick one up and see if it suits you, can be handy for just "dumping" stuff into, but not essential...i used a SAAV for months, i know use a LBV...and i can honestly say i dont miss the dump pouches at all..
