    Hello.

I am sure that this is posted in completely the wrong place but
    I am lost :(

I have Microsoft works on my computer and have received an
email with a letter which my computer cannot open as it is on a different system.

The letter is from a school and I think (??) they may use Word.

I can download the letter from the email but not open.

This is really important as my child has special needs and it is
a report about him that I need to view asap

Can anyone please please help me or tell me where to post this
that I could get an answer?

    Thanks a mil.

    Silvermoon

what type of file is it Silvermoon? have a look at the file name.
should be some thing like .doc or .docx at the end if its word
in which case follow advice above for .doc if it is .docx however you will need this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3657ce88-7cfa-457a-9aec-f4f827f20cac&displaylang=en

if its something else or above doesnt work come back and let us know.

If it's a Microsoft Word file, it would be well worth your time to get (free) Open Office.
    http://download.openoffice.org/
It will allow you to open Word documents which Works, although also a Microsoft product will not let you.

    Thanks so much.

I got it (eventually!!!) to open.

Brilliant help - really appreciate it.

Spurious - I know nothing about computers.
Is the open office thingy you mention safe to download?
I won't get a virus on the computer or anything will I?
    cos
I just cannot afford to replace it :(

Thanks to the 3 of you for the info. :D

Nope, no chance of that as long as you get it from openoffice.org and not some dodgy site. Perfectly legal too!
