I was drunk the day we did this stuff in Blackhall ;)

Anyone know if you need a license to sell alcohol wholesale ie. not to the public? Some kind of statutory reference or something would be nice, if someone is au fait with this area.

s37 of the Licensing Act (Ireland) 1874 refers to a 'new wholesale beer dealer's license'. Only noticed as its mentioned in Intoxicating Liquor Act 2000. Couldn't bring original 1874 act up online but thats probably the best place to start.

I don't know if you need a licence from the courts, but I imagine you will need revenue clearance.

Take to the manager in you local pub or off-licence and ask if he can put you in contact with someone.

Far as I can remember, this appears in the most recent Licencing Act in some way shape or form. The answer is yes.

    Where is Blackhall?

    ;)

Don't know about most recent legislation, but to sell beer wholesale, a license is required (cos I got one for a client). My application listed
Licensing Act (Ireland) 1874, S 8 & 37, Beer Licenses (Ireland) Act 1877, S 2, Beer Retailers' and Spirit Grocers Retail Licenses (Ireland) Act, 1900

Thanks guys, figured Revenue Clearance would be needed but wasn't sure about an actual license (never come across one for wholesalers). I'll take a quick look at the most recent Act and see if I find anything.

And Tom, Blackhall is the land of milk, honey and 2-4 dinitrophenylhydrazine from mythical tales of old. Some say winged unicorns nest in gigantic bananas in the lava pools out the back but I don't personally believe that.

Wholesale dealers licences i.e. Wholesale Beer Dealer, Wholesale Wine Dealer and Wholesale Spirit Delaer are distinct licences. A Court Certificate is only required in respect of the Wholesale Beer Dealers' licence.

No notice is required to fire officer but necessary to notify local superintendant also no need to publish notice in newspaper. Anyway it's covered under DCR Order 68 and the forms required can be found in the Schedule (below at pp350-360) and they are Notice of Application for a Certificate for a New Wholesale Beer Dealers Licence and then the Certificate for a New Wholesale Beer Dealer's Licence.

Wholesale dealers licenses are under the old leg. The advantage of them are you can sell bear whenever you want! But you need a rateable premises and you can only sell minimum quantities of 5 litres (I think, going from memory here).

The other usuals would also be required ie Revenue Cert, maps etc.
