37" Full HD LCD

I just moved into a new house and the people who previously lived there had made an alcove type hole in the wall for a TV to sit into. The TV they had was a 37" Philips, I will have to check the size of each of these Tvs against the size of the hole to see if they will fit once I have chosen one, but I would imagine most 37" Tvs would fit.

So, Id like to get a Tv before Xmas and I would prefer to get in store rather than online or anything. I know you are just going to tell me to go to Richer Sounds, but these are the options in Power City at the moment. I'm looking for a 37" with Full HD (Yes Full not Ready so don't try change my mind on that). I'd mainly be using it for watching DVDs, Videos off a media player and Xbox 360. I will also be watching regular TV on it, but that's not as important as the others. 100Mhz is important but if the TV has a good contrast ratio is 100Mhz that important? I would like to spend as little as possible, but if you really think its worth the few hundred extra I will considered the higher models.

So any options on there 4 sets?

    LG
    37" FULL HD LCD
    37LF75
    €678.85

    PHILIPS
    37" FLARE DESIGN LCD
    37PFL5603
    €849.95

    SAMSUNG
37" 5 SERIES FULL HD LCD
    LE37A552P3RXX
    €929.95
Free Offer :Samsung DF1080 DVD Player with Upscaling.

    PHILIPS
    HD 1080P FULL AMBILIGHT
    37PFL7603/10
    €1115.95

    Cheers

I am going to tell you to go to RS. I got a Samsung 37" A656 from them recently delivered for 780 EUR. It was wedding gift and the recipient loves it. I've seen the results on SD, DVD and HD (PS3) and am very impressed. Now do note that was a special price because it was sitting in the shop as a cancelled order.

I am getting to sound like a broken record on the RS I know. The MD also owns the Philips store too in Dublin so should be able to offer you there products too.

Anyway, I really liked that samsung but haven't see the other two to compare against.

Best of luck with whatever you choose.

100Hz does'nt have anything at all to do with contrast ratio for a start. I'm not sure about 100Hz technology to be honest. It would make fast moving action a bit better but i'm not sure its worth the extra outlay. Anyway, you seem very intent on a 37" and then your choices are fairly limited. The only 1080p 100Hz 37" sets i can think of are the Samsung 37A656, the panasonic 37lzd85 and some philips set i cant think of the model number. You already know about richersounds clearly but they would be the cheapest for that samsung, which is the one i would recommend if you had to get a 37" 100hz 1080p. I'd say about 850e should get that particular set.

Just saw the LG 37" LCD-TV 37LG5000 on Kompleet for €687 and just read a big thread about it on AVForums, seems like a pretty good deal at that price? 50,000:1 , Full HD, 3xHDMI etc.

Not bad i suppose but LG really are'nt in the same league as sony, panasonic or samsung. It may say 50000:1 contrast but i doubt if it would be anywhere near as good as a samsung with the same quoted contrast ratio

The way my budget is going I think I may have to settle for the LG. But for that price do you think it is a good TV?, you can always say some that is more expensive like the Samgs or Sonys are better but they cost at least 200-300 more for these sort of specs. The reviews of this seem pretty ok, some people have problems with the speakers but Ill mainly be watching DVD with surround sound.

Also does anyone know any stores in Dublin that stock these? Wouldnt mind taking an actually look at it.

The specs are good alright, and yes a samsung like this would be around 950e, possibly more for a sony. ll i know is that LG's last years models were pretty poor. This years ones may be well be better, though. Not sure of any store in dublin(I'm from CORK:D)

Edit: I know Currys stock LG tvs so they might be worth a look...

Ill check Currys sometime soon, its a bit out of the way though. I know Power City get LGs in too so might go look there, its not on their website, but Im sure they have more in store. What do you think would be the main downfalls of this TV then? I know some reviews have mentioned a sound issue, but no bleed issues have some up.

P.S Does anyone know how much Komplett charge to deliver a TV to your door and how much they charge for their new pick up point?

I 've looked at reviews for LG models like this and their sharpness and motion resolution seem to be their pitfalls. Please dont go out of your way to currys on my say so either. Power city may well have more of them. I've definately seen LG's in currys before, though

    Read through this thread:
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/lg-owners-forum/751100-so-any-news-new-lg5000-range-form-lg.html

And there seems to be a lot of random problems with the 37LG5000, which has put me right off it, so I'm thinking I might wait till January sales and see can I get something a bit better for around my budget and maybe even save a bit of money in that time to go towards a TV. I did really want one before xmas but with my budget and the quality of these tvs I don't see that happening. This is going to be the main TV in my house so I want it to be a good one.

Any general suggestions on 37" Full HD TVs?

Thanks for your help so far.
