What will TV3 do with Channel 6?

I've noticed that Channel 6 are starting to show more TV3 programmes by the week - Overseas Property Show, The Apprentice, Fringe and Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, and well we knew that was gonna happen since TV3 bought the channel.

But in the future - what do you think TV3 should use Channel 6 for? Surely they can't use it a dumping ground to show repeats of their own programmes.

Should they completely relaunch the channel - with a new name, some new original programming and presenters? Or leave it to show classic comedies, and American shows. I don't know the ratings for the channel - but it must be extremely low.

The first thing I think they will try to do is get it a better channel number on the Sky EPG.

Well ratings are are relative. If they can get enough ratings to present to sponsors/advertisers to cover their tiny outlay, job done. They're not looking to compete with RTE or BBC. They have enough decent US shows to make me watch them the odd time

This is the key thing for them. To be honest chanel 6 is no worse (probably better) in terms of content than most satelite stations it just has a really sh!t spot on the EPG so no one knows whats on or where to find it.

I wonder who is to blame for the **** EPG position.

Well Channel 6 wanted 106 on Sky from the start, but Sky weren't giving it to them, as i think it's Sky 1 or something like that.
And when the ratings weren't great - they accepted any ol number.

They wanted 105 but the way it works on Sky Digital is you take the next available slot on the EPG but Channel 6 weren't prepared to do this and delayed and delayed. End result was the arse end of the EPG.

Its maybe a way for TV3 to show their own programmes to English viewers as I think TV3 isn’t on the English EPG where as channel 6 is

    TV3 +1

Are you sure about that? I don't think it is.

There's absolutely no way that channel 6 is on a UK epg. None whatsoever.

Yeah the Apprentice episodes are on CH6 maybe a few days to a week after they've been aired on TV3 so not too bad there. One thing that bugs me about Channel 6 is that they have shows like Scrubs, Sex and the City and Friends on at the same time other channels have them on . It's quite possible that Paramount, E4 and Channel 6 could have Sex and the City on at the same time!

The sex and the city dvd box set is selling out the door and after Xmas I doubt there'll be a woman in the country who's seen every episode

As long as they keep showing the mighty boosh, king of the hill and Family guy, I don't care what they do.

Unfortunately, I see a TV3+1 on the horizon

I see they showed a double bill of new series "Brotherhood" on TV3 last night, but it's not on next week. But instead - episode 3 is on Channel 6 on Sunday and it'll probable continue on Channel 6.

I believe that Channel 6 could have a great future in repeating the better US dramas which would, IMHO, be ..

    - 24 (they've just finished Season/Day 2)
    - Sopranos (I think they were, but not sure how far they got)
    - The Wire (now in season 2)
    - Oz
    - The West Wing
    - .. and whatever you're having yourself ;)

I didn't get into 24 or The Wire when originally screened so have appreciated the opportunity C6 have provided for screening them again. They can only ever be a niche channel, so 'good' repeats are one niche I would like them to continue to fill.

Well they can't make the programming as poor as it already is.

They need to move the ITV2 type programs such as The Xtra Factor to Channel 6 to cleanup TV3's lineup. Though I still think TV3 as the Ryanair of television, I think they've made major improvements since the beginning of this season. The production quality of The Apprentice was far above what I expected of TV3, and there's more home produced programming then previous years. With some more quality original commissions, they could finally stop being an Irish simulcast of ITV.

Channel 6 need to stop showing 90s shows if they want to be taken seriously. As good as shows such as Seinfeld, Frasier, and Friends are, you can't be taken seriously repeating these programmes in primetime. Besides, there's already Paramount, E4, etc. for that (and better placed in the Sky EPG!). There's plenty of quality US shows that aren't shown on any stations here already that I'm sure could be snapped up for good money. If I were in TV3's position, I'd style Channel 6 after More4.

TV3's digital plan was to include an entertainment channel (dubbed 3XPOSÉ), so it'd be nice if they shifted all the Xposé crap off the main channel :P

I agree about the reruns but the Fraiser episodes they're showing are of the later (crapper) seasons. I've not seen a 93-96 episode of Frasier on telly in ages. Mind you I ain't got digital at the minute but I've the basic 17 channel package from NTL. Same goes for Friends, it's the later episodes that are being shown.

The same though goes for Sex and the City and Scrubs. These are on constant repeat often at the same time.

There's a few older shows like Married with Children, MASH and Cheers along with early Frasier episodes that I'd like to see.

I agree there's a market for reruns of these sort of shows, but the mis-match of older programming with new such as Friends on at 9pm sandwiched by two first-run shows doesn't make for a very effective or memorable lineup.

Yeah TV3 and even RTE could to with having a quick look at what the British channels have on before they do up their schedule. Last night The Panel was on at the same time as 8 our of 10 cats.

Yeah but how many of them can watch it?

I don't have Channel 6 on NTL Analogue. And if I did what's the chances of it working.

MTV & Setanta Sports IRL haven't been working for over a week.
