I dont see how this thread is in anyway near as bad as 'are you proud to be white'!

Just because the OP has a low post count its deleted, rediculous!

I generally ignor homeless people, im disgusted if they are smoking away on a fag also!

Anyone get the feeling the OP is the disgruntled reincarnation of a previous poster?

Would have been better if the cake was strawberry jam.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

For what its worth before the thread is shut:
Generally soneone 'tapping' on the street is doing it for drugs / drink / smokes. I never donate and would prefer donate to charities. This, however, is a hard stance to take sometimes. But, hey I know what I'm talking about and I stick to my guns, you gotta be consistent or else how would you judge who is deserving?

I have a photo of a homeless guy in cork, with a Lotto hat on, with its slogan "What a lot a little lotto can do...". i thought it was funny.

If even 1 in 10 was deserving I would be glad to have given it.

I'd hate to think I passed someone genuinely down on their luck just because other's out there are feeding a habit.

very clever picture, especially if he ended up homeless because of a gambling problem :pac:

A lot of times the homeless people I see regularly hang around the same place. If I know I'm going to see them on my way to work/home/wherever - especially around the holidays - I'll bring something from home and ask if they're hungry, or if they'd like whatever it is that I have.

I've given away a lot of cookies/pies that way!

OP What you realy need to do is study the generic AH poster and then post about some inane theory to do with bodily fluids and the effect that it has on the world economy or some equaly pointless thread that will generate uproar among the populous like

" In view of the 8% rise in taxi fares should you increase the tip by 8% as well "

Post and run for cover seems to be good advice...

I don't understand why there would be any talk of this thread being shut or the OP being banned for starting it, its a perfectly legitimate question, isn't it?

I used to give money to homeless people begging on the street before i realised that this is pointless, if not even doing more harm than good. The vast majority of homeless people are homeless not because they don't have enough money to buy or rent a house, they are homeless because they have serious fundamental problems, drugs, alcohol, etc. Giving them a few quid is only going to massage your own ego, it wont solve the problem. If you do want to help, then giving to a charity that tries to help the homeless in a systemic organised manner makes a lot more sense, however it doesn't make you feel better about yourself as you stroll past them on the street which is why a lot of people don't do it that way

I am surprised at how many people in this thread seem to have a callous attitude towards this, but i suppose when you live in Dublin you have to form a thick skin and just not care

I literally throw some loose change their way every now and then. It's good if you can get about three or four together because it's kinda like feeding pigeons
