    Hey everyone.

I set up a business in the last few days which provides a service to shops.

I am thinking of going door to door tommorow and walking into the shop unannounced giving the store manager my business card and just telling them about my services.

my question: is this method effective?
will i be frowned upon or kicked out?
do business people do this type of shop cold calling everyday?

    THANKS

id appreciaate some answers as am debating whether to do it or not tommorow.

    I had to do it in the UK for a company I worked for, luckily it was just for a few days. It was horrible. The amount of rejection, and having to pick yourself up to do it right away again. There's a number of issues really;

    - getting the person you really need to talk to
    - a lot of places (i think) look down on cold calling, and may turn you away
    - you need motivation and lots of it
    - if you do get the person you want will they have the time
    - will they want to listen to you?
    - do they need your service right now?

    - Chances are they'll take your card and forget about it
    - So in the end is it worth the time, effort and money?

If you can segment your market into those that would more likely use your service. Then find out the managers name (even ring the business and ask, worst case scenario they'll ask you why you want to know and you may get talking). Then send out some attractive direct mail addressed to the individual.

Although they probably get a lot of this type of mail, if you have some way of standing out from the crowd? some way of getting their attention? Preferably some way that is linked to your service. No harm to mention in the mailout you might following up with a phone call in the coming weeks.

Let me know if you tried the cold calling...

    - Luke
