Well the day has finally come, I am now the proud owner of a nikon d200......... but I haven't a clue how to use it, completely different to my minolta but I am resigning myself to the couch for the night with the instruction booklet.

I remember getting my D80 on holidays, throwing the manual in my bag and wandering around trying to figure out how to use it, amazed I didn't take more pictures of my feet :)

Good luck with your new toy! I hope you get as much enjoyment from it as I get from mine. It's really a superb camera and doesn't take too long to get to know the basics... and sure anyway haven't you got us all here if you have any specific queries ;)

    Well done!!

You have bought a Nikon & I have bought a Canon.

The Universal Balance is maintained :D

Enjoy your new D200, Lovely camera. And best of luck with it at the weekend

Well I got a bit scared when I first sat down to look at this and I dont read instructions but I was good and went onto an etutorial site and voila I am now a preficient(sp?) d200 user!!!! Now all I need is a flash and happy days...

Decided to sell my old kit and replace it with a lower level nikon back up too so as I can interchange lenses. So if anyone knows someone looking for a good starter kit go to adverts;)

Nice one, Glove. Another D200 happy user here too. It's a very versatile beast, and built like a tank. Looking forward to seeing the new stuff you do...

    Cheers,
    B.

Welcome to the dark side, excellent call! This in preparation for the anonymous gig at the weekend by any chance? ;)

The D200 is a smashing camera, well built, robust and a great all rounder.

I use it as a second body and wouldn't part with it.

As for the manual, well it's not great, I've a brilliant cd tutorial by an English nikon expert, I'll root around for it if you like.

    Congratulations on the new addition:).

Other then here (obviously), I've found the Nikonians.org website very useful for advice (not much craic over there, though:rolleyes:). It tends to be useful for specific camera model related queries.

    Enjoy!

Spot on Bui, a, I that transparent;)

Thimble thanks so much for the offer but after a long time on the net watching tutorials I think I'm good.

Gonna head down to dml and see if I can get a sync cable for the lights and test them out together.

We should have a street fight with the canon gang.

Street fight? I'll need to get more memory cards - don't want to run out of ammo

Welcome to the fold smellTheGlove. My first DSLR was a D80 a year ago - I was going to get a D200 but got a great interest-free offer. I've just progressed to a D2X (keeping the D80 for a while as backup).

I've got a whole load of Minolta film gear that I can't get rid of - nobody wants it

I just gave away an slr minolta flash as nobody wanted that either. Its like the rovers, people loose interest when they no longer make them. Doesnt mean it's not good anymore. A camera sales man said to me once, Minolta were the top of the bunch when it came to camera, but they just couldnt keep up with the global market and were lost in the midst of advertising campaigns of nikon and canon so they eventually bowed out.

I do agree though that had they been able to keep up with the marketing they would more than likey be more sought after now, nikon and canon dont have built in anti shake like minolta!

Unless you get a really good offer on the Minolta, I would keep it. It will serve as a back-up & it will also have sentimental value.

Funny you should say that - I drive a 97 Rover Sterling. I love it to bits, it's so luxurious (and huge). I only recently got rid of my 92 Vitesse.

I just wonder which one will go first - the Sterling or the 7xi.

where did you buy your d200?

Cabain I actually want to sell and then buy a smaller back up nikon, that way I can interchange lenses. Sounds silly but I reckon it would make sense in the long run.

I have a funny feeling the rover may co first cool. I love Rovers too... one of my fav cars was a 96 rover, gave it to my little bro then for his first car and he wrecked it.

Conair, I bought it off adverts. Just decided right got this gig, gotta get a new camera and what do you know 2 nikons turned up on adverts at the same time. I reckon it was a good enough deal, 650 for body vr lense and battery grip only 17k actuations on it too so not bad.

Snap a picture and then check its exif data with a program like opada - http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/
