    Hi all.

1st i'm not saying there will be a new one.. but more then likely they will release a new one.

Do you think they get get the graphics up to the same as the PS3?

As much as i love the Wii the graphics are bad compared to the PS3.

even if they could, i dont think they'd get them up to the PS3 standard. Nintendos graphics arent "worse" that the PS3....they're "different". Its that difference that makes the wii what it is. and the nunchucks.

Well, it takes two things - Nintendo to provide the hardware and the game developers to take advantage of that hardware.
Nintendo's processor is an off-the-shelf one, Nintendo have a policy of making a profit on all hardware, unlike Sony and Microsoft who ship hardware at a loss sometimes in order to "win" the console war and gain profit through games.
The processors you can get now or even in 2 years time off-the-shelf for the same money as the deal struck with the existing one will be similar in power to the 360's at least (a 3 core 3.2 GHz). Therefore it's entirely possible that the next Wii (Super Wii! :) ) will be able to match the top two today for at least the titles that make it to all three consoles.

Even if their follow-up console had more power under the hood, there’s no guarantee that the developers would even make use of that added power.
For example, even though the Wii is a bit more powerful than the GameCube, a lot of Wii titles can look far worse than some GameCube ones.

And while its all well and good to credit Nintendo for side-stepping the powerhorse graphics race (that MS and Sony continued with) and focus on creativity instead, it still means that a lot of cross platform titles aren’t even considered for the Wii, because its just not able to handle the graphical demands of the titles. End result is; gamers who game exclusively on the Wii tend to lose out.

I'd love the Wii to be able to hand to HD games.. would be great to play Call of Duty in HD holding the GUN and running around lol

Right back to the SNES Nintendo have produced hardware that is about half a generation behind, I would expect that trend to continue with whatever the next iteration of Ninty Hardware (At least 3 years form now, possibly longer depending on how the Wii sells) to be capable of xbox360 level visuals. Where Microsoft and Sony could be at that time or soon after is another question.

Incidentally I have heard that Sony are planning to push the PS3 as long as possible, aiming for 7, 8 year or even longer plan compared to the more typical 5.

There is two reasons for this, primarily laziness on the developers behalf but also a good number of early Wii Titles were originally planned for the 'Cube and then ported across to the Wii.

As with any System, as developers get to grips and figure out better ways to use the tech, we will see better and better visuals form the Wii in years to come. Alas, not in HD.

I'd prefer the wii to be able to play DVDs (or blu rays whatever...) than to improve the graphics. Maybe an updated webbrowser too

You can hack your Wii to play DVDs pretty easily, google Twilight Princess Hack. I have no idea what else its used for to be honest but you will be able to pay your DVDs.

I cant imagine ever really using any console for Internet access unless it had a full keyboard and flash compatibility what really needs to be fixed for Wii 2 is the storage situation.

no. It will be a different shade of white and cost €100 more.

You can use a wireless keyboard. Updating flash would be one of the updates was talking about

how have nintendo been half a generation behind with the snes, if anything for 1990 the only Console that was light years ahead graphically was the Neo-geo but that is understandable.

The N64 was the most powerfull console at time till the Dreamcast came out of the box.

And the Gamecube was alot more powerfull then the ps2.

Architecture of the Snes is two 8bit machines stuck together, is clever programing and Mode 7 that made the difference. N64 was so badly hamstrung by the use of carts that PS1 out performed it. Was the GC really more powerful than the PS2? I'd have my doubts, either way the original xbox was more powerful than either.

The Wii is quite clearly two Gamecubes glued together, I love my Wii dearly and dont own any other systems, but its hardly pushing the envelope in terms of hardware.

who cares about graphics anyways? As long as the game is good.

The gamecube out shown the ps2, just look at Resident evil 4 instance and resident evil zero,

And the n64 just being cart based doesn't really prove anything it was still a much more powerfull system,

    and true screw graphics.

I'm obviously not a Graphics whore or I would have bought one of the other systems and i dont think that the Wii's graphics capabilities have done the system much harm in sales but the disparity in hardware capabilities and graphics tech is doing damage to the system in terms of game development.

A large proportion of the development team who did the Metroid games have recently moved on to 360 and PS3 projects, ostensibly because they were finding Wii tech restricting. Similarly cross platform franchises need entirely separate teams and versions for Wii. Take a look at the 360 and PS3 versions of Rock Band 1 and 2 and Guitar Hero WT and compare them to the Wii versions of the same games, the Wii versions have far fewer options, modes, content by and large because of limitations in the Nintendo Hardware.

Already there is a Dearth of 3rd party games of a decent quality for Wii, if nintendo dont address this they risk the console being neglected entirely by 3rd party developers. This is even more alarming considering how little 1st party stuff there was this year.

it's actually quite funny to think that Nintendo give microsoft and sony a smack in the face:'We gladly announce that the NEW version wii - Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii has the [insert technically term] to run a graphic like ps3 now'.

obviously the value of the hardware is droping,ps3 going into its 3rd year next year, nintendo could possibly get a a hand on cell cpu/something similiar too :pac:

would be deadly to see if that happens
