I recently purchased a used car that has a nokia carkit, but the cradle is for an older Nokia model than the one I have. I have a 6300. Is it possible to just replace the existing cradle and connect or are the plugs and connectors different depending on the particular phone type?

    Thanks

Yes. Get onto your local supplier of car kits and purchase a new cradle off him/her.

Fitting it yourself is easy except for drilling into your lovely dash. Its plug and play from the old to the new.

I don't think the 6300 has a "pop-port" on the bottom, so there is no cradle available to mate it to the kit (I'm guessing CK7W Bluetooth Kit).

Options are either to remove the cradle and leads altogether and just use the bluetooth function with the phone still in you pocket, or if you prefer it in a cradle there are various models which fit your phone, but it's really just a holding bracket.

I "found" one of these http://www.nokia.ie/link?cid=EDITORIAL_806708 for my N70 and just plug the lead in to the "pop-port". Good thing about the Nokia OEM cradles are that it's one screw to remove the current and put the new one on the current bracket, but they do cost more than one you could pick up in Halfrauds that does the same job.

Thanks lads. Ya the car also has what I think is the blue tooth connector (Not sure if thats the proper term). Its the small circular thing with nokia written on it. It's screwed into part of the dash. How do I pair the phone with this? Is it as simple as searching for devices from my phone and will I need a password?

Search for "New Paired Devices" and it should find "Nokia CK-7W". If password isn't 0000 I'll find a hat to eat ;)

    Had same problem.
Bluetooth wasn't an option for me, basically cos I want to charge the phone's battery while I'm driving and also I dont get that many calls while driving so no way I'm having a thing in my ear all the time just in case I get a call. Also I hate the idea of having yet another piece of equipment that needs charging.

So a wired car kit was what I wanted.

Was told by Nokia contractor that newer Nokia car kits have overcome the problem of having to replace everything so bought newer Nokia car kit in good faith. Sure enough when I looked into new phone 1.5 years after Nokia had changed the whole concept again. Screw that.

Got a Bury system now (http://www.bury.com). Works with (virtually) all phones and their latest cradles (iPhone etc) are still compatible with their oldest base systems. Basic base system can be snatched for 70Euro on ebay. Cradles are very reasonably priced too and can be changed (snap-on) in 1 sec. Guess I'll stay with them.

I tried that and the phone can't find it." No devices found" message.Does the car have to be switched on? Any other ideas?

With most of the Nokia car kits, after the engine has been running for about 30 seconds the kit will beep (if wired in to the radio) to tell you it's searching for a phone.

If your phone can't find it when the engine is running, try pressing and holding the silver button down for about 5 seconds. Should cause the kit to beep through the speaker telling you it's on.

If it's dark enough the silver button should have a glow to is as well when the kit is working.

Thanks I will try that later!

Would recommend expansys.ie for replacement cradles. Changed my 6230i cradle recently for one to fit E61i. Was something like 45euro delivered for an original Nokia part.

Bluetooth is working and the password "0000" is correct. Thanks to all concerned for your help!

Ebay is usually cheaper if you can find the correct part...
