. .is there any point in considering this, having regard to snow conditions then? Thinking of OBERGURGL, altitude c.2,000m

Skiing in December is fine in most cases.

Plus you can get some really cheap flights at the moment for early December, €70 return to Geneva for 5 days is a bargain!

I already have flight booked to Geneva on 27th November, got them for €82 incl all taxes, check bag and charges, hoping for 3 days skiing. Zermatt is currently looking very good.
Val d'Isere also has some good snow high up, but further West, Val Thorens for example, has very little.
Not sure about Austria, apart from St Anton which I know has nothing yet.
However, anthing could happen over the next few weeks, but hoepfully lots more snow.

Yes, we are looking at Zermatt now. The hotels seem to be quite booked up already.

Have you been to Zermatt before? (I haven't) Do you know of any good places to stay near the lift?

easy. yes most rosort will be open. Even if we have bad snow this season they will make snow to keep marked trails open.

But to be sure pick a resort with a nearby glacier, In Austria Kaprun or Hintertux.
Or a resort with a 3000 m mountain , big 3 in Austria, Engelberg in switzerland.

Zermatt, Verbier, Val d'Isere/Tignes, Val Thorens are all good bankers for December.

Pretty much every resort in Europe is open in the second week of December, I have skied knee deep powder in a 1,800 meter at the top resort in the 2nd week of December.

Obergurgal normall opens in mid November and is high enough to be snow sure at that time of the year it has the longest ski season for a non glacial resort.

If it is something you are worried Glacier Resorts are always there to put your mind at ease.

Hintertux, Tignes, Saas Fee, Les Deux Alps are all good bets.
