Garda clearance

Hi all, hope this is the correct forum to post this question.

I am attending a course which requires me to spend one week on work experience.

I am hoping to do it in either a school or creche as I have family working in both.

Is it (a) necessary for me to have Garda clearance seeing as it's only for one week and I doubt very much that I would be left alone with any children etc

and (b) If I do need to have it, how do I go about obtaining it? Can I request it myself or does an employer have to request it. Do I go to my local Garda station?

    Thanks for reading

If youre working near kids you need a garda vetting cert
these come from ennis ?( correct me if im wrong ) and can take about 8 weeks to come thru they can only be got by your employer with your consent or by yourself
if its only a week and your doing work experience realisticly I doubt an employer will seek this due to the time constraints involved.

alsothey are different from a character statement issued by the super for forigen travel.

I believe the central vetting unit is located in Thurles.

I imagine its for your college / potential employer to ask, otherwise people might be wasting the unit's time.

Do not go to your local Garda station for this, they can't give it to you. This is done by the central vetting unit only at the behest of your employer/college & only with your signed consent.
