Im in shock. I brought a pair of boots to be healed and soled and the cost is 27 euro. I cant believe it. Is this normal or am I being ripped off. The bloody boots were only 20 euro in the sales. Im shocked. Is this a rip off?. It would have been cheaper to get 2 pairs of the same boots.

So why didn't you ? As long as people are willing to pay a price the companies will charge that price.

The issue is that you got a 20 euro pair of boots healed and soled.... you throw out 20 euro boots , not get them repaired...

Sounds like a reasonable enough price to me. What did you expect to pay?

    Break the 27 Euro price down. VAT @ 13.5% (I think, could be 21%) = 3.21.
    Materials I'd guesstimate 5-8 Euro. = 6.50.
An hour or the guts thereof of semi-skilled labour. ? ,
to include PAYE, employers PRSI, employee PRSI,
income levy, holiday entitlements, etc (low end estimate) =15.00?

Business Overheads- Light, heat, machinery, rent, insurance,
rates, water, refuse, etc, etc ,etc =>balance of your 27 euro =2.29!!!!!!

Without knowing where you got the job done, i would say they lost money on it.

It seems a lot because the boots were so cheap to begin with. Shoe repair is only really appropriate for decent shoes, not disposables.

You have to be an shoe repair guy who dabbles with accountancy on the side!! Nice post :)

    Its just economics.

The boots were originally made for half nothing by a starving pauper in an unhealthy Asian sweatshop.

The Irish repairman just wanted a proper Irish wage for his work.

Would YOU spend a couple of hours repairing shoes(including materials, shop rental etc.) for less than €27 ?

    Right too.
A cobbler who says he Heals bad Souls is talking cobblers and should be strung up by the aglets.

haha ill smack your gob again if you like, who repairs 20 quid boots with anything other than a beer coaster :P why are you surprised though seriously, little slave kids working for a dollar a day made them shoes not a 'professionally certified native foot protection device repairman' like we have here in Ireland. It went that way about 20 years ago pal...get used to it...it's just gonna get worse and worse and worse

Always best to ask the cost before going ahead with a purchase !

    By the way.
    Where is the shop?
I have a pair of boots that need repair and that sounds like a good price.

    Hilarious.

An hour to heel and sole boots?
Unless they've foam hands on they should do it in ten minutes.

The GF regularly gets her boots heeled (as in the wee black plastic heel on high heels) and in Dublin it costs circa E15. Costs £4stg in Armagh when she goes up. Its literally taking a pair of pliers to prise the ex. heel cap off, and hammering a new one on. E15 is scandalous.

Re-sole-ing sounds a fair bit more complicated, but certainly in my/my gf's experience, this type of service in Dublin is indeed a rip-off.

its just another example of the celtic tiger ripping the heart out of the people of the country. the last time i got shoes soled and heeled it cost €12.50 and they were like new but that was years ago. i have been using the beermats ever since.

I'm bringing a pair of boots to be heeled and soled over the next few days. I'll post how much I'm charged - Dublin - I'll be leaving them in in town, northside....

There is a shop in Talbot Street in Town called Bryans who do the same job for €22.
