ITV HD on free-to-air

Can anyone tell me how to get ITV HD on my free-to-air box. I realise that its a red button service but i never get a prompt even though i know its in HD, like the liverpool atletico match thats on now.

If i press the red button i get a caption that reads, "Searching: 100...". It happens that the red button is also the text button. If it helps the box is a Ferguson HD. Very frustrating.

Is there a way i can tune in the HD service to its own channel, i've noticed that some of BBC's interactive streams have their own channels.

Try a single transponder search and then adjust the PID's manually

I won't lie, i don't really know what that means. I know how to perform the transponder searches but i don't know what PID's are, like the polarity, transmission and FEC things?

Your honesty is refreshing . Yes similar to what you mention, see if you can see Video PID,Audio PID and PCR PID and set to

    PCR PID - 3401
    Audio PID - 3402
    PCR PID - 3401

The make is a Ferguson Fx-8500 HD

When doing the TP search there is no mention of Video, Audio or PCR PID, there is the usual frequency, symbol rate, and polarity, and then transmission; either DVB-S, or DVB-S2, and then FEC; 5/6, 3/4...etc. There is also modulation and pilot options which it seems cannot be changed.

I might be wrong with this one but i dont think you reciever can get itv hd as many cant with it being an interactive channel like the bbci ones. just wondering can you get the bbc interactive screens?

I don't have a red button service on the bbc channels but like i say some of the interactive streams from bbc can be tuned in to their own channels.

sorry what i meant to say was can you get the bbci channels in like normal stations...ie a channel on its own

if not then unfortunitly you cant get itv hd

I don't think i have a BBCi channel, if i do its certainly not labelled BBCi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭von Smallhausen

In that case i do, not stream 3,4 or 7 but they just must not be tuned in. So apparently i have BBCi

Sounds like you do have the bbci channels but im just reading about the itv hd thingy and it only states that its a red button service..bla bla bla...

just wondering is your STB an official freesat box or just an FTA receiver.
Then again you did say that you dont have a red button..so im guessing that it is not possible..i cant even get it lousy Pace!

    sorry for all the questions:D

It may be just a FTA reciever, don't know if its an official freesat box, got it from freesat.ie though. The thing is there is a red button but when its pressed it shows that searching 100 thing, as if its searching teletext

Ferguson Fx-8500 HD is standard FTA receiver, not official freesat receiver.
It will not receive ITV HD.

Having said that lots of FTA receivers can tune in ITV HD after software update.
I haven't been able to find any english support for your receiver, mainly german and polish. That in itself tells me there would be no software update to receive ITV HD since they would have no interest in it.

There is not must you are missing , at best they show about 1 hour a day, the rest of 23 hours is test card.

If its recent purchase maybe you can exchange it for official freesat receiver.

But even just for the football it would be good, because ITV's SD picture is so bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭von Smallhausen

seing that it is an standard FTA box it cannot get itv HD and from what you said when you press the red button it goes like a teletext page...therefor you have no red button service thus no ITV HD:(

    Sorry:)

The Ferguson 8500 is a HD box http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/index.php/en/hd-receivers.html although whether it can get ITV HD or not is not certain.

When you go to your Manual Satelite Search usually there is an option to enter PIDs Manually. This is where you should but the PID from the earlier posts. Thee ItvHD shows up as a data stream (your box will ignore it) so that why you must enter PIDs manually.Your HD box will pick up ItvHD no problem as it has the right codec H.268 It's only sky boxes that don't.

Yeah, with a bit of awkward tuning, it should be possible. I've had it tuned in on both Octagon HD box, and my current TM6900 (latter was easier with software update).

Thanks for all your help. I found an option under software upgrade buried deep in the menus that allows you to enter 1 PID number, no separate options for audio, video or PCR. The PID is currently set to 8005, should this be changed to the Video PID value posted earlier by Tony?

Also will this affect channels already tuned in, will i have to retune them? Not much of a problem just wondering.

you should only change PID on transponder where ITV HD is. It sounds like you dont have this option. Also audio has to be changed or you wont hear anything.

I still think your best bet is to find support forum for your receiver.

btw, i came across firmware for Ferguson 8500 HD dated 24 Oct 2008.
Apparently introduces more options , goodies and even PVR option

Can you check what software version you have ?

    One i can see is:
    firmware version: S317beta
    add: PVR function
    add: dutch OSD
fix: renamed favourite-lists have their standard-names back after hard-reset
fix: minor bugs and display errors

The software version can be checked on TV screen.
1 On remote control, press “MENU” button.
    2 Go to “Settings” menu.
3 Select “System information” menu item.
4 Check “SW Version” (second line).
