Fedex invoice

Hi, I recently received an invoice from fedex about a shipment I received
from the states over a month ago. 3v cards are great for these situations:)

There is tax payable on the import of 15.13 euro.
I didn't give express permission for fedex to pay customs on the shipment.
Now I am also being asked to cough up an "administration fee" of 10 euro + 21%
    tax on the administration fee.

Bit cheeky of them tbh. I have used USPS before without any problems.
Should I just cough up the 27.23 euro in full, or just pay the customs tax?
I never gave them permission to deal with customs on my behalf.

Now I know I should read the terms and conditions etc before ordering,
but these silly stealth charges are bothering me on principle alone.
No doubt people have been in a similar situation to the above.

What action should I take besides paying the duty and/or ignoring them?
I presume fedex would file legal proceedings to get the measly sum:rolleyes:

    #Thanks

No, but Customs and Excise (the Law) gave it to them for you, and by importing anything into Ireland from outside the EU, you are bound by Irish Customs Laws.

You don't have a choice but to pay, otherwise it's tax evasion. The administrative fee is something we have to live with. If you feel strongly about it, then take it up with your local TD, as the government gives the couriers the right to charge up to €15 on each item.

Ah, may as well pony up so.

FedEx certainly won't be my shipping handler for future shipments.
Still a bit miffed about the admin charge on principle.

It's a bit mad that the admin charge can be considered tax,
when other carriers don't even apply such a BS charge.

Might have a look into it, but what you are saying makes sense.
They are hardly going to change their minds just for me.

    Boo Urrns!!!

Excuse my pessimism, but that would almost certainly be a wasted effort:pac:
Well, at least in my area.

The other major courier companies also charge the same fees. An Post only charge 5euro, and only if they inspect the package. A lot of An Posts deliveries get through uninspected, so you pay nothing.

The admin fee isn't tax, it's the fee the couriers are allowed to charge you for the privilege of them paying the tax for you.

You can of course question them on it, but you're not likely to get anywhere. If you don't pay this, they'll send it to a debt collector, which will be more hassle for you. If you kick up enough of a stink, they might waive it for you, but then again, they might not. Depends on how much time you'd like to put into this.

If possible, get anything shipped via the USPS and An Post, and avoid couriers, in order to minimise any possible taxes in future.

I've done the Fedex thing aswell and never again. Would put me off any purchase - admin fee is a rip off.
