im purchasing plywood which has to be impervious to water. i see that plywood comes in waterproof or water resistant. to my mind they are teh same thing, but obviously there is a difference. what is the difference?

AFAIK, the glue is the same but waterproof means it can withstand total immersion due to the better quality of the timber used in the ply and the absence of voids in the sheets. If you are not sure of the quality of the ply
cut a 3'' inch square and boil it for an hour, if it doesn't delaminate it'll do ya.
You could also use a two part epoxy to seal the ply once you build your 'scope, this would minimise movement due to humidity changes etc.
