Winter Running League - Dublin Southside - Non-Elite Athletes

    Hi,

I run twice a week and have done a number of 10ks. My times would only be very average (takes me about 50 minutes to do a 10 k).

Now that its coming into winter i feel i will need a bit of extra motivation to help me get out there on those cold and wet winters night. :( Could anyone recommend a winter league for runners of a similar ability to myself in Dublin? I currently live near Ballsbridge - something nearby would be ideal.

A number of my friends from at home are involved in the Dungarvan winter leagues. What i like about those leagues is that they seem to be tailored towards the non-elite athletes since they use a handicap system..... Is there anything similar in Dublin? Essentially i dont want to join a club full of gazelles and be completely out of my depth!

If anyone could help me that would be much appreciated!

Talk to Crusaders AC - they have gazelles and non-gazelles. http://www.crusadersac.org/ They have training groups on the track and its very social. Not sure if they have fit4life (essentially non-elite road races) but although you may be apprehensive joining a club will be the best thing you will do and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Thanks Tingle - just looking at their site they seemed to be track based. Maybe this is borne out of ignorance but that just doesnt seem interesting. Are Crusaders involved in road races? Or similar clubs in the area?

Badger, shoot down to the track on Tuesdays 6.30 and talk to Mike McGovern. The distance boys & girls are involved in all sorts. (Tues is the only track session).

Hi Badger, have you followed the trends in the marathon/tri section. We've set up a Boards club and we've registered with the BHAA. They have cross country/road/track races throughout the year. All standards are catered for. We don't train together but we meet up for races. If you have a look at the 'Training Logs' section you will see there are people of all standards. Every age, gender, level are welcome. Have a read and see what you think. The idea starts with a trend 'anyone with me' posted by woddle.
