Has anyone any information on this Ironman planned for Courtown In Wexford in August 2009?
I think a half ironman is also planned on the day

Found a Youtube clip advertising the event, the date seems wrong, it says Sunday 23rd August 2008 I presume that should say 2009. The date could clash with the Dublin City Triathlon.

Does anyone know if it is Ironman affiliated? The clip would give the impression it is but there is now mention of it on the Ironman.com site.

I think it is guaranteed not to be IM affiilalted :)

An IM event requires a certain level of organisation, prize money etc etc. And road closures.

IM Germany is the only ironman with fully closed roads but a new race is unlikely to be IM affialiated until it has proven itself for a few years. eireman should be careful, they are very sue happy if someone uses the IM corp trademark without permission.

    Hi,

While this would be great from a convenience perspective, I get the sense from the more experienced heads (HM, tunney etc...), that an IM distance event in Ireland is not a particularly good idea.
If true, is this for weather, or organizational/non-WTC affiliate reasons?

I probably only have 1 IM in me, so would like to be sure I pick a worthwhile event!

    cheers,

Wont be taking part in this but I am very excited about it as Courtown is sorta like an adopted home to me.

I will definitely be there to support.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out though because I know from running down there the roads are not ideal for running...lots of tight twisty roads with no footpaths and blind corners and I cant see how they are going to close roads. Should be a great atmosphere at the harbor though and I hope it takes off because I would really love to compete in it someday (still a long way off that though;)).

P.S. Why do some people feel an IM distance event in Ireland is not a good thing?

    Hi All,

Great to hear there is a lot of interest out there about the Éireman...

Abhainn is right - it will be a full and a half.

According to the TI race organisers meeting i attended we were the only event on that day. Dublin was/is to be the following w/e unless it has moved since?! Hopefully it hasn't. B great to see lots of Piranha folk there in numbers

All systems are go and we will be live very soon....We'll leave it at that.

Preliminary TI calendar has Eireman on its own on 23rd August. However, Piranha have not yet put in their application for DCT so things could change.

Interestingly Ireman (IM distance race) is on the weekend after. I know nothing about the course in Eireman, but I do know it has to be better and safer than Ireman.

The very best of luck to Eoin in this. I think there's huge interest in Ireland for an Ironman distance race and it's great to see someone going out and orgainisng more races in Ireland, god knows they all fill up quick enough.

Eoin is fantastic at getting publicity having done a few mad events already including a static Ironman on Grafton street and I'm sure he'll make a great job of Ironman court town.

Thanks Damien. Thats very heartening - much appreciated. I've been working on this 24/7 for the past 4 months. The bar is high and we aim to reach it.
I'm really looking forward to announcing this.....
Defo much, much easier to train for one than organise!!!

Piranha submitted the application for a long while back and a date has been provisionally agreed with TI. Once TI confirm the date I'm sure it'll be announced.

Given there were issues with the entry (heard from Piranha friends) and it still not on the provisional calendar I assumed the entry for DCT hadn't gone in.
